Maxidot says 0 miles petrol left...

Featured Replies

How much have I really got?

Will I manage another 5 miles or so or do I need to go out with the petrol can in the morning?

I've never had it as low as this before so not really sure how far I can push it.

You might have to push it......:D

It all depends on how far your nearest garage is, and do you trust your computer?

I think a lot is dependant on how hard you were driving it before you got home, i.e. if you were nannying it, you may have no miles left, but if you were giving it sime beans, it may think you have none left if you continue to drive it hard, if that makes sense.

Silly thing to do really though, what happens if you have an emergency in the middle of the night...

it might be ok, as long as you take it easy but..

Depends on how many miles you have already driven with it on zero.

You also need to consider that when cold and engine needs a lot more fuel to start and run until warm.

I've driven on '0' for a few miles - there does seem to be a bit of a deliberate error on the safe side built in to the system - as computers never make mistakes, only humans...

Do you really want to risk it though?

SWMBO's company fuel card is Key Fuels which seems to be made up of some of the most inaccessible garages they could possibly find. Yesterday her LEON TDi clicked onto 0 miles about 3 miles from the garage and that was a little worrying. Mind you when we got there it took £70 to fill it!!

you have about 30-50 miles left (a gallon?), i posted about this a while back and was lucky to konk out as i got onto the forecourt.

All was well in the end. I took a can of unleaded with me that my Dad kept in the garage for his lawnmower just in case but I made it the 5 or so miles to the petrol station.

I would agree with this on may 55 car i got to a point where the comp said 0 and the nearest garage was 12 miles away. But i wont be doing that again in a huryy lol.

nor will i, its only cos i had a can in the boot that i decided to risk it and after the said miles on 0 i decided it must be time that i would run out as iheard that its only a gallon in emergency and i proved it to be right (certainly wasnt a good sight seeing a full tank plus emergancy tank being filled up in one filling).

mine once said 0 miles left and the tank took 59.6 liters, strange since it is only a 55 liter tank.

also i have noticed thant once the pump has "clicked" off you can put another 5 liters of fuel in. takes a good 5 min but eventually you can brim the tank.

Anyone else noticed this?

i once manged 37 miles before i got the tell tale hiccup and promptly pulled over an put in the 10 litres i had in the boot.

I was doing 70mph on a motorway though so it will vary on your driving as to how far you get but as already said 30-50 miles is a good bet

Carefull your not over filling the tank on a petrol. You can knock the release inside the filler neck and get more fuel in when its brimmed. But this then fills the charcoal canister and breather line, damaging the canister and N80 valve.

oops ive dont that loads of times i better stop:confused:

I always assumed it went over the 55litres due to being a reserve on top of that (I could be wrong).

Depending on the driving but I'd get 50miles after the light comes on, the countdown really depends on the type of driving you just done.

I often run mine down to 10 or 15 miles left on the non maxidot display, and have only once taken it to 5 miles left.

At least it isn't like my previous Mazda 6 that ran out when it was saying 71 miles left - whilst I was in the outside lane of a busy M1. lol.
