Datalogger?

Sounds like some Big Brother styleeee telematics - to provide (quoting their website).....

• Improved health and safety

• Reduced risk of recharges

• Accurate business mileage expenses

• Enhanced service levels

• Reduced vehicle downtime

• Reduced administration

• Reduced risk of Inland Revenue queries

• Improved productivity

Yep - found one the other night.

Very interesting.

I guess there are plenty of fleet tracking systems on the market these days. Do company car / van drivers need to be told about them, or can companies install them in secret?

This on Chrissys car per chance.

Just another big brother scam then. Charming.

Has a GSM Sim Card so it's able to record such things as acceleration, deceleration, top speed, driving hours etc and phone it all home.

What's more worrying is that I suppose these things are so cheap it won't be long before we are road taxed and prosecuted for speeding with such devices.

what if it was removed?

Just say you wanted to plug in VAGCOM but forget to put it back :)

Bugger that , take it on a track day (could even be with it connected to someone elses car) and see how long before anyone notices

It piggy backs the diag port so it has pass through - No need to unplug it.

Also as it phones home it would be known that t was unpluged.

I say drive like a loony with it on. :)

Unless you have signed anything to say that you consent to being monitored like this they can't complain if you unplug it.

Just like the proposed RFID tags on wheelie-bins , the one attached to mine would suffer a sudden , unexplained yet reoccurring fault - probably involving a 240v supply.

Hell , pop the sim card out and run a 9v battery across the terminals to stop it calling home.

I reckon there wl be a whole lot of people out there who simply have no idea that they have one.

Faraday cage would be just the ticket. :P

?????????????

...and I tried looking it up (acronyms etc) :o

I have some sort of tracking device on works transit. Dont really bother me as its just for work use but if it was in a company car that I was allowed to use for personal use then I'm afraid it would get disconnected after work hours. There is no way I would let anyone know where I am going in my own time etc.

By the way, for a company to have tracking devices I believe that they have to have a Data Protection policy to comply with data protection legislation and as part of that they have to have a Telematics Policy. This is to identify who has access to information gained from the fitting of a tracker and how they can use it.

Without this, can they really enforce anything that the data provides them with? Employees would no doubt not like it if everyone in the office can see where they are at 11pm on a Saturday night etc?

:wrthless:

It's amazing how easily a microwave can damage a SIM card don't you think

Welcome to my world. We have been logged and watched for years, the scary thing about it is you forget its there untill the info it provides to the company is used to assist them in saying "Your Fired"

well i must say my *** is twiching, i have a company and to be honest i have been thrashing the living **** out of it! how can i check if i've got one of these little feckers plugged into it?

Look down at the Data port under the steering wheel.

If there is anything sticking into the connector or it is protruding at all then you probably have.
