I read somewhere on this forum that the Michelin Premicy tyres fitted to the VRS were not very good in the wet. Mine has Continental SportContact 2's fitted - any views on them?

From these results it would appear that the Primacy was better - but it's all very subjective.

I had similar Michelins on mine from new and, while they lasted well, the grip in the wet wasn't that good IMHO.

My other half has Michelin Primacy on her Golf PD130, they don't grip anything like Toyos, Dunlop Sports or Kumhos, they squeal like hell when you're cornering hard, they's soft and unresponsive compared with"performance" tyres, they're ok in the wet, but on the other hand the original tyres are still on the car after 25,000 miles with a few mm left !

my octy vRS is running the Conti's and i dont think they are too bad, fast cornering in the wet is hampered by the fron slipping wide alittle but other than that i cant really fault them.... saying that i will be going to P Zero's or F1's when a change is required in the ever popular 225/45 R17 fitment.

I found the Michelins to feel "detached" from the road - very vague and uninspiring

So I changed to Toyo Proxes and the difference is huge - much more confidence inspring and you can feel the car sticking to the road a lot more

I'm about to get some Goodyear Eagle F1's on my motor, any ideas about them?

They *used* to have a reputation for being very soft. I assume you're getting the GSDs? The ones I had on a Mondeo about 3 years ago only lasted for 8k miles on the front :( However I have heard better things about the most recent ones.

Lots of grip, though ;) (Thinks maybe that's why they wore out in 8k...........)

Did you find the car seemed to tramline and be affected by the dreaded torque steer a bit more after switching to 17" toyos?. ive got a similar setup on mine.. and it does tend to suffer a bit on rough surfaces..
