how to improve performance

Featured Replies

getting a remap shortly, just wondering is there anything else reasonablly cheap that can improve the performance of my octy vrs

I am pricing a few mod to mine as well at the moment.

I would also get a Forge Dumpvalve and induction kit as well if your doing a remap.

then get the remap done once those are fitted

You may want to look at the brakes and suspension to make sure they can stop and handle as well as your improved 'go' can, er, go.

Well, it's up to you. As well as being able to stop strongly when cold or even warm, you amy want to satisfy yourself that they cope well enough with fade etc. It all depends what kind of driving you do - after all AFAIK, the brakes are the same as on the 225bhp TT so ought to be able to manage the extra power your remap will give you with normal driving...

I'm planning to have fitted a valve with a cold side relocation kit and a cold air intake before I get a remap (probably this time next year). Will also be uprating the brake discs and pads and considering coilovers and an ARB depending on the money situation.

The importance of getting an aftermarket valve before a remap is that the standard plastic valve won't last long with the increased boost pressure a remap gives you.

The standard DV is fine now so save your cash and spend the extra on a tank of VPower for the drive home

Yeah mines fine too. I have a forge but the original fits under the cover better so i'm just using that.

I've found the brakes to be okay, but not fantastic. On a recent run out with a ITR, they were shown up to be merely adequate for fast road driving.

Also, sort out the suspension as it isn't up to the job when the speeds get a bit higher,(on a track/private road of course:thumbup:).

Compared to a Micra, it handles and stops really well. It depends what you're used to I suppose..:)

My last car was a '91 Suzuki Samurai Lwb in a rather nice shade of rusty white!

It lasted me 7 years, and I still have it on my parents drive, so can't complain. Performance was, well, full of character!

But yeah, the vRS is basically like an F1 car to me! It took me 2-3 months to get half decent at driving it properly in anger. We've had a few moments together, including almost dying at the 'Ring, but now we have merged into one being!

Personally I tend to save my cash for maintenance jobs like brakes, bearings, bushes, tyres and oil. But I will be getting an exhaust and remap at some point....

Who is doing the remap?

Yeah you could spend around £320 on the whiteline rear ARB and a remap.

remap then do brakes and suspension. DV and cold air intake won't gain you anything but cool noises :)

same goes for exhausts.

I agree with with the DV and CAI but turbo back exhaust does give a little extra, turbo spools up quicker giving extra torque for a start.

Why on earth would you want a dump valve, how is that a performance improvement?

If you also re-locate it to the front of the engine away from the turbo then you get more cold air through the system which help the turbo breath better and reduces spool up lag etc.

I don't mean some chavy tcshhhhhh style one unless you like those !

I never said it was performance but if your going to do the job do it right :D

what a load of rubbish.

If it's rubbish then why do Forge sell the kits to do this ?

But then that your opinion and your entitled to it :)

how can relocating the DV lower lag?

the DV has sod all to do with lag.
