Both way too much, as is said above by mattbeef ebay with a good filter.

None of them, stick with the standard airbox, or you could end up losing power. There was research done iirc that claimed the airbox was better.

Although if it's the noise you want either of those should do the job nicely.

Neither.

If you want power go for a panel filter in the standard airbox.

If it's for the noise then go for an ABD Racing one

I sold my original ABD one for a Carbonio, but quickly changed back to the ABD as I preferred the noise.

Its because of the fear that you might go into water too deep, but as that would have to be deep enough to go over the lower door seal, then who is going to do that?

They may be also referring to the extension you can get, if you want to, that takes the filter ever further down to lower bumper level, but with the standard ABD Racing one as it is, you will not get any problems.

Also bear in mind that the Carbonio also places the filter in the same place as the ABD one, so if your worried then you will have the same fears with either.

I have had my ABD one on for about three years and never had a problem.

Yes, you can get blue pipe if you really want to replace the red one, I think Demon Tweeks sell the Samco on its own.

im alsoe guessing that if i go to a bigger maf at any stage it will be easier to get the carbonio style one to fit over it?

has anyone ever gave any thought to the forge kona induction thing like these too? they state track us eonly tho ?

The ABD one will fit any size maf as you can get Samco pipes that reduce or increase in the same section of pipe.

Yes, the e-bay one sits at the same height as both the ABD and the Carbonio, its just a different quality to the them, you should also change the filter as supplied to a larger GREEN one.

If your after the e-bay one, then send an e-mail to John at [email protected], say it came from me and he will then sell you the e-bay one at a discount.

I have to admit that I did run 238bhp with the E-Bay one on the Octy vRS, and, on reliable rollers, its just that I got the ABD Racing one cheaply from another forum member who was selling his car, or else I would probably still be running the E-Bay one.

Obviously the quality is lots better in the ABD & Carbonio ones, but its just a bit of pipe that goes behind the front bumper to hold a filter, and give colder denser air.

The ABD with a Bailey DV30 does give an awesome whooooooosh though....LOL

As with mapping/suspension/brakes and all other tuning bits, its your choice??

The STOCK airbox. Better filtration, cold air feed, no problems phoning up the insurance (or finding that it's invalid if you crash due to an unreported modification).

The other rather expensive stuff is 99% of the time all show no go, quite often less go. Popular with 'lads' who have no engineering background but seen one in a glossy on a chav's nova etc.

However that's just my opinion and I admit I'm almost 100% a utilitarian, if it doesn't actually MAKE the car go better, I tend to think it's sad, regardless if it's got Jabba printed on it. Which by the way always makes me chuckle because for some reason if I see Jabba I presume the owner is Jabba the hut

If you haven't got a rear anti roll bar such as the Eibach, your money would be well spent on that.

What a load of spiv from their maketing. It's the BEST airbox, ps you can't actually use it in rain it's SO good. And the K&N is a lie, in quantitive tests they are found to have WORSE filtration than stock paper and often NO greater flow.

Have you personally ever fitted an ABD to your car and suffered any problems in the rain, or do you personally know anyone on here that has????

My points about K&N are well known and widely published, I have no reason to go chasing people waving papers at them. You want it, you got it - fine. From an engineering point you'll not hear me say it's better though.

I have an engineering/vehicle engineering background and there is more to filtration than people think. Eg micron rating, is that nominal or absolute? Flow - is that part, mid or end life and is it median or mode averaged if average? If better flow, does it make a noticable difference to the pressure in the intake during the operational range of your engine? I presume you realise that if you double the flow of your airbox, but the original exceeded comfortably the requirements of your engine, you gain nothing apart from fat looking pipes.

I could go on but why bother, if you like them fine.

I'll challenge you to come up with anything that substantially proves that any after market box is BETTER than stock though.

I didn't say yours won't work, or won't work in the wet - I just made comment on the mfr's disclaimer which of course is not on the bottom of a VW sales sheet for a VW airbox designed to work in not just wet but all climates/countries.

Totally agree with Greg. When i strippped my car to sell it, i took the Carbonio off and replaced the standard airbox. Throttle responce feels better with the standard setup.
