Screw In The Tyre

Featured Replies

Yesterday while doing a weekly check on my tyres I noticed the front driver side tyre was down a bit so I pumped it up, just now I have noticed a screw in the tyre. How much would this cost to fix , I don't need a new tyre do I ?.

Depends on where the screw is in the tread, as long as its not to close to the sidewall then a repair can be done cheaply. If you are to close to the edge then replacement is the only option.

just had mine repaired it cost me £15 all in. hope you have the same luck!

My tyre man charges me a tenner.

Almost in the centre is the screw.

Thats repairable they plug them I think,

Almost in the centre is the screw.

You'll probably be alright for a repair then. Fingers crossed. They need to take the tyre off to have a look to be sure, as apparently the holes are sometimes a funny shape and can be more difficult to repair. I think you'll be fine though.

In the centre is fine, an easy repair.

Will be fine for a repair as long as there is enough tread left on tyre

Its repairable i got charged £10 before.

They will just stick a patch on the inside £10 I don't think they are allowed to plug anymore.

Yes but I think that they use mushroom plugs which are plug and patch all in one - makes the tyre as good as it was before the screw got to it. The plug part presumably fills the hole and stop small stones or glass getting forced in and through the patch.

Just checked it again and it is not in the centre but not near to the edge, I have sent my brother a pic and he will put it on here.

I had a hire car last year (Pathfinder) for a week or so.It had 3 tyres with screws in them, 1 lost air all the time. Shocking for a hire car. I only really noticed the day before but when I spoke to them on the phone they didnt seem bothered. Before I took it back I took the screw out, covered it in superglue and screwed it back in. It was enough to seal the hole, lol.

When I delieverd it back, again they didnt seem too bothered so I went back to the car and took out all 3 screws and this let down all 3 tyres. They were bothered then!!

KWIK SPIT do it free,(last month) and hope you will return for a tyre when you need one

As others have said, easy quick job, so long as it is in the tread and not near or in the wall

Even if its a funny shape hole or at a funny angle, i drilled mine out from the inside and used a bigger plug!

Hi,

I've been driving for 4 years now and have NEVER paid more than £5 for a tyre repair. Could be down to my location (east london)...

Today while talking to a workmate near my car I told him about the screw in the tyre so i went to show him it, but he headed for the rear tyre and not the front so i told him it's the front and he said they is a screw in the back tyre as well:confused:. The screw in on the top of the wall so it means a new tyre plus a repair from the front tyre. We have noticed foot prints in the soil in the garden and the garden fence is is damaged, i am thinking it is someone playing a joke . One screw in a tyre is bad look, 2 is screws in tyres is really bad luck and both on the same side?????????. The passenger side of the car is up against a fence and a laurel bush. Expecting to pay £100 for new tyre and repair to the other tyre.

The only thing that I can add is that if you think about it logically, if you have run over some screws and they were sort of together you would expect to find the screws on both tyres on the same side. If on the other hand, we normally are just unlucky when we pick up screws then they could end up on any tyre or combinations of tyres. Try not to feel persecuted as it will just burn you up - maybe its just coinsidence these things happen even when we try to take care to avoid them (now if I only knew how to do that). I caught half a 1970's Ford crossflow manifold clamp in a nearly new tyre once - I didn't need to ask if it was fixable with something that size mainly inside the tyre!

I went to Nationwide Autocentre this morning and got a quote for £77 for the new tyre, fitting and repairing the other tyre so i made a appointment at 2pm today, on my way home went to kwik fit anf it would have cost me £100 for the same job.

the bill was:

195/50R15 DUNLOP TYRE FITTED £55.13

DISPOSAL CHARGE £1.39

BAL+ ALIGN,WHEEL BAL £5.99

NEW VALVE FITTED £1.99

PUNCTURE REPAIR £12.50

I prefer to change both tyres on the same axle, so the tread depths are the same. Changed the rears last month 2 goodyear excellence 205x60x15 £120 the pair fitted etc inc VAT.

I prefer to change both tyres on the same axle, so the tread depths are the same.

Me too. I had a nail in a rear that looked repairable, but the nail was so long it went into the sidewall from the inside .

2 new tyres later.....

The two new back tyres were almost new so decided just to replace the damaged one.

Mine were 3/4 worn. Wasn't planning to replace them for a few months though :thumbdwn:
