Clarkson's Fab VRS comments in the Sun

Featured Replies

Anybody see pg 21 of the Sun Today? Jeremy Clarkson's article on the Fabia VRS:

Read as follows:

"I wasn't expecting much when Skoda sent a diesel Fabia round to my house.

It wasn't especially good looking, it had a dreary interior and though the 0-60 time of 9.5 seconds isn't bad for a 1.9 diesel, it's not exactly enough to make your eyes water. And yet it was a brilliant little car.

It may not be quick off the line but once it's rolling the power comes in huge lumps of such ferocity that not even a mini cooper s could keep up. And it only cost

:(

the days of the stealth ' was that a bloody skoda that just caned me? ' are gone i fear......

but in saying that, i feel i must add ( an albeit half-hearted) ' ;) '

Have to agree with you Huck......

A Guy with a 2004 320d BMW walked up to my car in a carpark the other day. Said what have these got unter the bonnet? They go like stink, going on to say he couldn't shake off a silver Fabia vRS off his tail over a 20 mile cross county blast.

Too late Colin.

The sheer amount of new Furby RS owners on here proves that the cat is well & truly out of the bag...

The secret didn't last long, did it? :D

There are still a few that look, point and laugh though. Only for a short while though once they start choking on the fumes! :D

:hihi:

Like that ?? :D

Yep. Then finishes like this. :flamed:

I still think its ugly from the outside but when you spend all your time sat in it who cares.

Brake upgrade tomorrow.

yet another (respected) journalist for robmawer to disagree with!

robmawer, they can't all be wrong can they?

Rob.

I would love to think he is right but surely the vRS can't out run a mini cooper s ???

Between 20mph and 80mph I reckon it would

seriously?

it may be possible given a good driver and on a rolling start, I think the cooper S's power comes in higher up the rev range so and I'm guessing here, on a B-road blast the skoda may just have the advantage. lol but then again it might not!

I did catch a Honda type R off guard and he really did have to give it some to catch up. I think he was surprised that a skoda shot passed him so quickly

I guess thats it, you can drive the vRS rather quickly with next to no effort needed where as petrol hot hatches like civic type r's you really have to thrash them about for them to perform as they are supposed to,

personally that would just annoy me, hence the buying a deisel

I went to Elvington for the TOTB yesterday, and once parked up I got alot of glances as though they were thinking whats that!? :D I was going to take it on the 1/4 mile but was afraid of anything going wrong:(

Darren

should have done would be good to give it a try

give it a go a standard fubry will do it in the mid to high 16's which is nout to be ashamed of

Hi Darren - isn't TOTB3 on August 1st????

does anyone have a copy of the actual article or can they scan it in /tell me of a web address where i can find it???

have tried a search engine but when you type in 'clarkson' and 'fabia vrs' you get sent to this bleedin' thread on briskoda !!!

You dont have to thrash them, they are designed to be like that ;)

well no, I'll rephrase that you have to drive them hard and rev them hard as the extra power doesn't kick in until high up the rev counter.

yeah thats more like it :)

bit of a jeykl and hyde, relatively quick, then hit 5800 rpm and all hell brakes lose. Sad to see mine go :( , but needs must...... :)
