There's an even better demo of it shown here:

It's in the Tiguan, but you get to see much better how the whole thing works. It's interesting to note that even in the Tiguan, you don't get visual information on the RNS510 display. This appears to be another first for the Superb (and the Passat CC).

He makes an interesting point in the video about the price. On the VW, it's only £100 more than just parking sensors alone i.e. £450. I've heard prices of £750 being talked about for the Superb, which doesn't make much sense. When I first talked to the Skoda press office about this, they indicated that it would cost no more than £500. It will be a shame if Skoda prices this option way higher than VW.

I just wonder how these systems will be when the car is older etc, sounds like more to go wrong and another excuse for idiots to not look at what they are doing when in their cars.

I think you're right, but on balance I think parking sensors and the like improve safety overall. On several occasions, I've looked behind me as I was reversing into a space, then looked forward to check the front, when a pedestrian has tried to dodge behind the car. If it weren't for the rear sensors, I would probably have hit them. You can be as careful as you like, but you can't always anticipate what others are going to do.

With regards to park assist, I think it will be very useful for a lot of people. My wife is really looking forward to having it, as she always has a problem with parallel parking. It's not because she can't do it, as she can. She just gets in a panic when she is holding up the traffic as she tries to park. She then makes a mess of it.

My other half is the same, she is the sort of driver who has to think as to which way to turn the steering wheel when reversing, so she is fine when calm, but under pressure loses it! But then she drives an older car and it is not too much of a worry when she bounces of a fence or kerb etc!

I don't think the old skoda name has gone yet, tell people you drive a diesel skoda and you can still see the thinking behind the expression, mind you this is only with ignorant people nowadays, the sort who pay £100 for a white T-Shirt

The old Skoda issues will remain for a long time, especially whilst so many Skoda owners continue with the factory option of 'chip on the shoulder'.

just confirmed my place with millbrook and booked my hotel :)

cant wait to have a play in it. just checked the details and it says camera phones are allowed but please only photo the skoda event :)

Millbrook is a very interesting place to be, When i was last there it was a no camera policy.

Dean you need to book a hotel!! it's only an 11/2 hrs away, are you going to make full use of the hospitality!!

Have a good time.

Well, good news, I just checked skoda.de and the park assist w/ front and rear parking sensors is only 390euros. That means under 300quid i think...good job skoda

Your not much further than me and I'm going there and back on the one day.

As for cameras, I'm going to take my SLR with the telephoto lense get some pictures to sell to autocar. Or not.

I'll see you tommorow I guess Dean. I gather from my colleague it is actually quite a good day out, even though I shan't be driving as I am not 21 for another couple of months.

Can you confirm what code appears on the "fitted options sticker" on the car & service book for this. Can it be retro-fitted?

11/2 hours away! what sat nav have you got?? shat nav??? lol!!

ive got the hotel as im not a morning person at the best of times :) so getting up and having a 2 hour drive aint my idea of fun, so a 20 mins drive is much more like it

Lol, I know a few of those people - the same who leave their bluetooth ear-pieces on as they pay for their petrol.

I'm not a violent person (honest) but whenever I see someone with a bluetooth ear piece in walking around (ie not driving) I just want to punch them in the face!

Self parking looks brilliant.

pimp my roo!! it was lowered and running 17 inch scout wheels

the park assist is also excellent, its so odd having the wheel turn on itself, but the system leaves the jap versions in the dust!! its so simple to use its just fool proof :D

The Park Assist demo really does look very impressive - not like the Lexus on Top Gear?

Again my wife would love this on a car - but she won't even try to drive my Superb saying it's too long. Still i might get her to change her mind if I had one of these?

not at all, you drive slowly along the road and push a simple button to activate. the sensors then look for a 6m gap (which is about 1m bigger than the car) it then tells you its found the space big enough on the maxi dot. you then stop, let go of the steering wheel and engage reverse.

the car then steers itself into the space. it uses the car in front to help it line up, so it needs no lexus like complicated setting up!

you only control the speed and brake whenthe parking sensors tell you too, its brilliant!!

I've got a video from the inside of the ESP test on my phone. Was very amusing day had a lot of fun

i tried keeping an eye out for your name on a badge but they were so small print i had no chance really lol!!

the irish guy on the esp test was brilliant, i found out why later. he drifts professionally! drives nissans sideways most days, hence why he could get he **** end out so far

Seems like you had a good day out,

Do I sense a begging fit coming on. "Oh bossman don't you think we need to give the new Superb all the attention it can get?" "Yes..." "Great so you'll have no problem handing me the keys to my new 3.6-Demo!"

lol with the mileage i do i couldnt justify it lol

Only £26k, bargain compared to that rubbish 320d they had there for £29k.

Did you hear about the Laguna they had as a competitor cars it broke on the dynamic drive event. Had to go home on the back of an RAC truck.

I doubt we will see many 3.6 DSG in the UK though, and if we do they'll be a proper bargain in a few years time when no one can afford to run anything larger than a hairdryer.
