A couple of weeks back I bought a big brake upgrade for the front of the Vrs for Nurburgring usage :D. Following on from the thread below they are now fitted :thumbup:. Some people requested a write up so here goes.

I've finally finshed and WOW, what a difference.

Fitting was straight forward enough but took some time due to caliper bolts being too long as Compbrake thought it may have required spacing, brake unions had to be sourced and the discs supplied were not quite big enough. I'd like to thank Compbrake (especially Brent) during the installation. Customer service like I have never experienced before. Meeting me to exchange discs for example. :thumbup:

As it was the first time this kit had been fitted to an Octy it was a case of suck it and see. It turned out in the end to be the same as the golf MK4 kit just with the addition of a 5mm bigger disc and 2 10mm brake connections.

I'm actually glad the 330mm x32mm discs were replaced for 335mm x32mm as I didn't want to be outdone by Steevie Wonder - the other member of the 6 potters :thumbup:

The pic below shows the pads overhanging the disc with the 330mm discs

After disc replacement with 335 x 32mm: - Perfect.

The silver stuff on the bell here is just a bit of anti seize spray.

I like things to look matched so the discs and pads were also replaced on the rear and the faded green calipers given a much needed spruce up - in black to match.

The kit fitted with no spacing at all and the standard spider alloys cleared with ease. This picture was taken with 330mm discs but loads of room.

Please excuse the state of the car - it hasn't been washed for some time and its forgoten what tyre shine feels like :P

Really pleased, they're quiet as a mouse, no vibration at all and if you really stand on them you need to close your eyes to prevent your eyeballs making a mess on the windscreen :rofl:.

wicked mate, i will get the pennies building up :orb_not_w

Awesome, black calipers look lovely on the black car.

Very nice :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Car not clean are you taking the pi55

Niiiice! I'm not jealous at all :(

I think I would have painted the front calipers to match the rears, rather than the rears to match the front.... but that's pretty minor.

Bet they work ok :D

Tidy :)

Looks spot on.

Oh and the car looks pretty clean to me..... wish mine were that clean:O

They look superb, are you going to keep the rears the standard size or you planning on uprating them? I guess you haven't had chance to try them out yet being they need bedding in etc. just make sure you update the thread when you do :thumbup:

Welcome to the club!!

Very NICE:thumbup::thumbup:

Top stuff - looks very nice :cool:

Like the black calipers too, don't see them very often and look good :thumbup:

Thanks, a lot of people have asked this but by uprating the rears the ABS is likely to just kick in so much sooner. When you stand on these now the back wheels go quite light so you realy dont want massive braking force on the back. As far as rear brakes go on a front wheel drive car the Octy Vrs is very well equiped as standard :thumbup:

I am taking it quite easy for a couple of days then carrying out the pad break in procedure which involves nearly setting them alight :eek:. Normally you would break pads in using old discs but as everything is new this is what they recomend. When you do apply them the redardation is so strong and consistant. They are already far better than the standard set-up with groved discs and Ferrodo DS2500 pads.
