My take on the VRS front bumper

I think I might be the first to mix these two together...

Old vs. new:

I've watched people on vwvortex go on about lamin-x for years now (mainly in the mk3 camp), so I thought I would mix that in with the matt black inserts.

The car is only 8 months old and already both fogs were severely pebble-dashed (the whole front end is already suffering from the huge motorway mileage :( )

Hopefully this lamin-x stuff will give them some protection. I was sceptical at first and decided to do this purely on aesthetic grounds, but the film turned out to be really thick - you certainly need a hair dryer to get it to wrap the lamps. I would have made a neater job of it but whose idea was it to make the fogs impossible to remove without taking the bumper off?!?

Anyway, really pleased with this...

Deek.

Why is the foglight surround black on the nearside? :)

I thought both should be blue, like your offside is. :) The film looks OK - just not sure on the gold-ie colour - would prefer something more clear really.

They're both black - that was a "compare and contrast."

You can get the film in red, black, yellow or clear, so it would be possible to do it just for protection, but I wanted something a bit different...

I've kept the original inserts and the film comes off with heat and a little white spirit, so I can easily change my mind about it later on... I don't think I will, though!

Black doesn't look bad at all. I only saw the foglight colour difference and just thought you had a black surround on one side for some odd reason. :o

I reckon black on the surrounds, but clear fogs.

Black really suits the blue paintwork mate.

Dont like it sorry...the clear may be okay

The yellow fogs was going to be my idea :(

Like them mate, I have black fog surrounds on my vRS (silver), one came adrift so I put 2 matt black ones back on and have left them there ever since.

Yellow fog lights actually work a lot better if you're in fog than plain white ones so from that point of view I'd say it's a good thing :)

Sorry :P

You should still do them though - they look great.

This is something I've been toying with. Have you got any pics? If buying new ones how do they come? i.e primed or bare black plastic?

The fog surrounds come as black plastic, but it's a shiny black plastic. These ones have been keyed, plastic primed and then sprayed matt black (just halfords stuff) - this gives a perfect for the matt plastic of the grille inserts.

I then had *huge* troubles the surrounds to snap into the grille insert parts. In the end, I used a combination of araldite and brute force as the tabs furthest away from the fogs just wouldn't snap into place.

If I was doing it again, I would dremel all the tabs off the fog surrounds and solely use glue to fit them onto the grilles - it would give a neater result.

My only concerns are how well the matt finish will stand up to the motorway salt and detritus. Time will tell...

i might get round to painting my spare ones gloss black soon to see,but yours does look good:thumbup:

How much are the fog surrounds from a Skoda dealer? Don't suppose you have part numbers do you?

i think they were about 20 quid for both, ish:thumbup:

like the black surrounds, a thing i'm contemplating for my next mod.

really not keen on the yellow fogs myself tho.
