Play.com (UK) : Acer Aspire One A150X / Atom N270 1.6GHz / 1GB / 120GB / 8.9" / XP Home / NetBook / Blue : Computing - Free Delivery

The reviews have been glowing and I was looking for a small unit to do my VAG COM and VAG Tacho work etc aswell as a second unit for home for surfing. I found the Dell Inspiron 9400 we have although a great machine and fine as a desktop replacement at home its way to bulky to have up the unit plus it deprives the missus of t'interweb when I take it away.

Should get it first week in August, looking forward to it.

Acer make good stuf :D

Very nice. Seen them in PC World, Advent branded. Nice bit of kit. Enjoy, i think they are great.:)

EEE 701 up for sale.

Confused now. I thought this was an MSI Wind rebadged. Is it?

Perfect for the job mate

A nice little package that. Looks good in blue

No the Advent is the rebadged MSI Wind. The Acer is it's own model.

8.9 Screen? I thought my 12" was small!

Will be ideal for lugging about though :)

Ive got a 17" screen on this Dell and VAG COM takes a tiny corner of it, pain in the **** having it on your lap in the car.

looks nice , might get one myself

An Asus EeePC 900 owner says "Doh!":(

Screen should be fine for VAG-COMing yeah. Have noticed it's quite an efficient program in terms of screen usage, especially with the tab and module arrangement.

The laptop I use for this sort of stuff is a VAIO TR1, and its 10.6" is more than adequate so this will still be fine....

The chaps at ROSS-TECHconfirmed it will be fine.

Very nice laptop and good price too:thumbup:

Very nice,

If the EEE PC had not happened, I dont think any of these mini laptops would exist. It was the success of the EEE PC that got the ball rolling. Because the Acer one uses a standard hard drive I wouldnt expect the battery life to be as good as the EEE though.

Theres some quite interesting articles out there regarding the efficency of SSD's not yet being the silver bullet that people hoped..

Basically hard drives are still generally very close to the power efficency of *current generation* SSD's..

I dont see why people with Asus EEE's are complaining, they are still very competent machines and do have their place in the household.

ive actually sold my 701 to my dad, hes stuck SUSE on it and now takes it on business trips with him instead of his 15" toshiba laptop.

The thing about the eee and the acer one- is that the acer has the new atom processor that uses far less battery and generates less heat,

I have a eee701 and have been looking at the Acer, so instead of going for the Acer i have just invested in a bigger battery that now gives me approx 6 hrs.

Hope you enjoy your new toy , let us know what you think after a couple of weeks.

The atom isnt the be-all end-all either.. although the cpu itself is new and uses very little power, its actually slower than the celeron in the eee and the battery life isnt much better because its got a crappy chipset that burns up 4 times more wattage than the cpu does!

you lot have confused me - so the eee 1000 out next month isn't the hottest little toy then?

It's very similar to a pentium ;)

Also the SSD's actually use more power than hard discs most the time so people are now finding out :thumbdwn:

Well I've just invested in a 6600mAh battery for my Eee 900. I will report back when it arrives.

This Advent machine is available on PCW... its actually an rebranded MSI Wind.

Its a *very* good price...

Battery life is only about 2 hours, but that's enough for her

Bas

2hrs? my core2duo powered laptop does more than that :D
