Isle of Wight invasion part 4 'feeler'

Featured Replies

Ok, as some of you know I am keen to have a meet over here when it isn't freezing cold and I'm fed up of doing it in January! I'm thinking saturday 20th September. I have checked the Briskoda calender and the only other thing (European road trip) is the week or so before.

I have chosen this date because it should still be nice weather down here and the kids would be back to school so hopefully no extortionate ferry rates will apply.

For those that havn't come before it usually goes like this....I meet you all at the Red Funnel - Gateway to the Isle of Wight and Isle of Wight Ferries which normally gets into East Cowes on the IOW about 09.30 ish. It's a one hour journey from Southampton and to allow for check in you probably want to be in Southampton by about 08.00. We have a little conflab before setting off wherever and I show you the marvels of the IOW with regular stops. We go to what has become the official pub of the meet as everyone seems happy with it. I may thrash one or two of you at Pool if I am feeling particularly lucky.

We could then drive up the milly which is the picturesque coast road that has my favourite beach along it.

If everyone wanted to stay over night I know a couple of hotels that we could crawl back to after some pub action....

Please place your opinions below :D

Will run it past the usual contingent who come from my end and see what's up. Pretty sure I will be free anyway. :)

Maybe interested.

Hmm, is this where they have the TT motorcycle racing?

Will we be able to view the natives at feeding time? And what PPE will we need please?

Umm, no. :P The weather is usually warmer on the wight than the Man though. :D

The hotels are as follows....

Travel lodge in Newport town centre, it's brand new so can't be that rank yet. £60.00 per room. No parking on site but a public car park just along the road, I have no idea if it allows you to stay long time.

Premier inn, this is walkable distance to Newport town centre and is next door to a Brewers Fayre which is used for breakfast so you can have ur food and bevvies in there and crawl back to your room or go into town. It has on site parking and is £60.00 per room. Again, it's fairly new and I have actually been in one of the rooms and there was nowt wrong with it.

we be interested, thats me and sinister (not that she knows about this yet), im pretty sure she isnt working, just need to scrape some ferry money together.

Whats the Lymington ferry times at that time of morning?

Perhaps you can add next to your name if you want lunch at the pub and if you want to say over and I suppose have dinner too. I will be on my own on this meet as Mr P will be sleeping off a late shift and entering into a night shift on the saturday night. If there are enough of you that want to do the evening pub thing and stay over I may do so also, as I obviously won't have another driver and wont be able to drive home

I suspect I will be a deffo for lunch, and evening can just be a takeaway or something - nowt fancy. :D

Update....It seems that this weekend is also hosting White Air, which is the extreme sports festival. Loads going on aswell as the Red Arrows doing displays  There is a website detailing all the sporting events but usually it's surfing/wind surfing/kite surfing, BMX displays etc aswell as bands on. It's really worth a look see.

Good times :D

Down to you to find out whats on where and when and draw up a little plan to get us all there I reckon. ;)

Whats the Lymington ferry times at that time of morning?

It's often cheaper to get the soton one and it's easier to get there than lymington as it's just a shot up the A31/M27 and straight into the docks from the M271.

Might be interested, depending on permission.

portsmouth one is expensive, found out yesterday and cowes week just made it a mare on the north part of the island, but a great drive around the south part

Typical - I'm there on Holiday for the last week of Aug, and this is a few weeks later...:rofl:

  • 2 weeks later...
