Which induction kit is best?

Featured Replies

What is the best induction to get for the VRS Fabia?

And where is the best place to get it from?

:)

I'd personally say not to bother. Just replace your OEM paper filter every 10k, and out the money you save towards a remap.

HTH :)

I must admit , I think the PD160 and a good filter is good

I have these on my car

better throttle response and better fuel economy I got with mine

Sarah

Yeah, if you are upping the power, the PD160 is a must, if only to stop your car laying smoke under heavy acceleration. The jury's out on the true level of any benefits, but they can't hurt. The retail price can (£80 - *ouch*), but there's a member on here whose name temporarily escapes me who can get them for less!

he would be called rougemont

And I suppose you know someone who can sell a good filter ...at a very reasonable price of course!!:P

induction kits is a wait of time as everyone has said. Jabba said to me when I go for the remapp to add the PD160 and either a pipercross or green cotton filter to help with the map.

I wouldnt say a waste of time. I had the PD160 plus K&N panel filter fitted. I now have the K&N 57i filter fitted to mine and the engine revs much more freely and hardly any black smoke. Plus it makes the engine more deep and throaty.:D

However I have been looking at the K&N Apollo Airfilter which is similar to the BMC. Cost about £160 to buy.

I looked at the K&N 57i but was put off by the fact that its sucking in hot underhood air.

To be really effective you would need it to pull cool air in from the front somewhere.

[Edit] that apollo kit looks the business. Wonder how much the filtering surface area of a cone filter is compared to the OEM sized panel filter?

I have the PD160 intake and a green cotton and that seems a good one, form wat i have read the standard replacement filers are better than the usual exposed K&N type you would fit to normal petrol cars etc

Mmm

I would say , you have K&N , Green , or Pipercross

Which ever filter is your choice

I have Pipercross as it is cheap ;)

£28 + VAT even free postage at the mo on line with us

But after 60k miles , I throw it away

As I said , I get 4MPG out of mine

But it is much of a muchness as to which one to go for

Sarah

Aftermarket Panel filter + PD160 intake is as good as it gets, unless someone can post up some actual data to support the use of a CAI.

Pretty steep at about 180 quid for an Apollo (including all the bits) just to make a different intake sound I would think...

I thought about that and actually installed it over the bottom half of the original air box. That way I get cool air from the circulating airbox around it. Granted I still suck in some warm air from under the bonnet, but I think it is only very minor when travelling at speeds of over 30 mph. Unless you live in very hot countries:rolleyes:....

I will look into the Apollo and see what the surface area is compared with the panel. Im sure it would work similar to the Px Viper. I had one of those on my Focus 1.8 and it was really good!

Having run a standard setup, standard intake pipe with a piperX filter, PD160 intake and piperX filter and then tried an induction kit i have to admit i was far happier with the PD160/piperX combination.

I ran the induction kit using the bottom half of the airbox, in an attempt to shield some sort of heat away from it. Yes the induction kit sounds good and you get an occasional wastgate "flutter" and it revs slightly better BUT i lost topend power and drew in FAR too much hot air. If you vented the bonnet and ran an induction kit, its possible it might be better, but why got to those lengths AND cost just to get a bit of noise?????

IMO stick with the standard airbox with a PD160 and a "performance" filter.

Mind you.....my mate has a CAI that i could try......hhhmmmmmm lol

I had the Pipercross induction kit on my car for a couple of weeks

It was rolling road`d afterwards and made 4 bhp

It was the noise that I could not do , as I do 150 mile round trip , it was interupting my listening to Take That

Relight my fire is not the same when the induction kit kicks in

But as for throttle response , about the same as the PD160 and Pipercoss filter :rubchin:

So if you want the sound and the same as the PD160 throttle response , there you go

Sarah

Is heatsoak that much of an issue on turbo cars though? Because you've got an intercooler there anyway...

Pikey mod! Pikey mod! Pikey mod!

Pikey mod! Pikey mod! Pikey mod!

Thats next on my hitlist.

Never paid any attention to it until the other day after a long drive.

Wheel was at an angle, and wheel arch soaking wet, except the area behind the smic, which was bone dry, obviously a tad warm behind there.

Need to get my dremel out ! :D

BTW decrons way works really well.

I've ran the pikey arch mod for about 6 months now, driving all sorts of sheep **** covered roads and the intercooler is still spotless

I done the pikey mod too........noticed a difference, seemed more responsive.

If the initial charge is hot, your not going to be as efficient when it reaches the intercooler compared to it being cold.

Yeah I do have the PD160 pipe installed with just standard air filter and the throttle response is better. I may change the filter by the sounds of it to save myself alot of time.

lol i wouldnt bother i read the peformance tuner magazine this week that does track day cars and classics etc, and they had a clio 182 which made 165.00 bhp standard it made:

K&N panel drop in 165.04bhp

All other filters made less! Green cone, Raid cone etc

K&N 57i gen 2 kit made 168.54bhp and it cost £182 !

i would go for a drop in and a big cold air feed to the bottom of the airbox, i think most of the other filters suffered as they were exposed to the head of the engine, the 57i kit had a part where it sat flush with the bonnet so it stayed cooler.

its alot of money in the end, you could spend that on diesel and have a good blast about on back roads like
