Will i ever be happy??

Featured Replies

Hi just checking that im not the only one in the world like this.

I got my Red Fabia vRS in Jan 08. When i picked it up i was like a kid with a new toy at Christmas. Its a great little car. But 8 months down the line and im not as happy as i was when i first got it.

Its nothing to do with the car. Its a fun little car, gets great mpg, and is still quick. I thought it would be a great car for a new start.

I was involed in a major road traffic collision on my way home from work in April 06. I was driving east bound on the A13 when someone pulled out in front of me. I jamed on the brakes to stop from hitting them but the 28 tonne mobile crane bhind me didnt brake. My BMW Z3 was knocked acrossed all 3 lanes after the crane had hit us 3 times. I was taken to hospital and spent a month there after having fits from a head injury. Had to give up my DL, and had to be fit free for a year before the DVLA gave it back. So when i got it back in Jan 08 i didnt want a car that was too brash so i got the fabia.

The problem now is i want something with more power, looks sporty and something thats abit bigger. But i cant make my mind up!

I know that what ever i get i will prob want something else in 8 months again.

I love the Leon Cupra R 225bhp (not the 210). It looks sporty and has the power to match. I also love the Renault Megan 225. Doesnt look as sporty as the Seat but i once owned a Clio 172 and loved it.

Am i the only one that after 8 or so months is never happy with there car and all ways wants something new or are there other people with this problem?

:(

I'm about 11 months in to a Leon FR TDi and i'm on the net looking for my next car already. Nothing to do with not liking the Leon, it's a great car but I just get really bored of cars quite quickly.

Before I had company cars and was tied down to three years before the next one the longest I kept a car for was 18 months!

It just seams im always losing money and not just abit, but major amounts. Got the Fabia for £8k think i may get about £6k for it now and looking at spending anything from £9k-£13k on the next one. Just all this finance keeps adding up dam APR!

Think i need to get a better job lol The Ambulance Serive is not as well paid as people think

Even my current issues with my dash impersonating the Blackpool illuminations haven't put me off my Furby. I think the only thing that will prompt SWMBO and I to swap one of ours will be if we get to the stage where we can't fit everything for a holiday into the car + roof box...

Perhaps another BMW Z3? Once you enjoy a particualar style of car not always a good idea to change.

Or - see if you can convince someone with a fettled vRS to let you have a go. If you find that that floats your boat and you're handly with DIY you can always make it a hot hatch.....

Other thing (forgive me for mentioning this on a forum!) is that all too often after a head injury you get depression ('Organic') and that colours how you see the world and feel things. The way you phrased this post falls in line with that.

Nearly bought a Z3 before getting the fabia, found it kinda uninspiring, but it was a pretty low-spec one tbh....

Good luck

Not much chance of that if you pack well....

Well was very depressed after the RTC as i was in hospital for a month being preped for brain surgery. Had to give up my front line Ambulance job on the emergency ambulance to now take an office job within the ambulance service.

So swaped Trauma for typing. All my training to help and save lives feels totaly wasted :(.

So a new car is a way to chear me up. So in answer to your question very depressed! Life is toatlly changed, and for my troubles i was left with a left sided weaknes after the head trauma.

Hope that you sued the living daylights out of them, both the crane and the guy who pulled out in front.

Very sorry to hear of it, but at least you're alive, sure you must have seen some horrible things during your frontline work....

Why not try some track days for some thrills. I'm sure in stead of using your own car they have ones where you can try out lots of different ones for fun.

Glad to here you're back behind the wheel, sounds like quite a time you've had of it.

As previously mentioned you could alway fettle your Furbie or try an Octy II VRS.

If I could change my car every time I got bored with it, I'd be bankrupt, and have spent all my savings on cars. Sometimes you can't just have something new because you want it :D

Good suggestions above though. Go back to RWD, try some track days, perhaps some other training like advanced driving of some sort to put the challenge and enjoyment back into driving.

Twice a year, hire yourself a Chevy Matiz and use that for a week. When you get back in your car you'll remember what you liked about it.

Rob.

:eek::eek:

Hmmm you have a point.

I hired a Matiz once and was almost in tears for the week I drove it but cried out for joy when I could take the Matiz back and got my Skoda returned with a new clutch.

Brilliant thinking tbh.

Try it then report back on here:D

On the phone to Hertz now renting the worst car they have. Matiz or even a 1007!

Thank for your advice evryone.

And i am suing the crane company case is sitll ongoing hopeflly coming to the end of it now.

I am lucky to be alive which is the great thing, and working on the front line ambulances turned me off getting a superbike as when you come off them it tends to be abit messy. Just follow the entrails to your biker

Mk2 Octavia vRS  would be my choice everytime mate, if only i could afford one.....:(

i know exactly what you mean, the vrs is the best car ive had in terms of performance and its a great car and all i need in a car but i get bored sometimes too, its not even just for something faster but something new, id love to get into a leon cupra 225 or something similiar but i just have to look at a sensible point of view that with fuel, car tax, insurance etc the way it is the fabia is great to have at this moment in time

good on fuel

£120 ish tax a year

and only gruop 9

maybe you should try a remap for the time being, may put the fizz back in your relationship:thumbup:

im lucky in the sense my work van is possibly the worst van EVER created so now when i get in my vrs after work its like stepping into a supercar compared

you will have to keep us posted on the choice you make

Why not try a Z4? :)

I did like the z3 but couldnt get on with just the 2 seats. Dont think i could afford a z4.

Spoke to Renault yesterday and they hav found me a megane 225 in inferno orange on a 04 plate with only 20k miles on the clock. Just sortingme out a price. Have always liked Renualt sport models. But loved the fabia and would recomend it to anyone.

Thought about spending £1k or so on modifications? It sounds like it's out of warranty anyway. Spend £400 on decent suspension, and £400 on a remap, leaving £200 for tyres. :D Contingency fund for clutch and brakes probably worthwhile. Keep the :D going in the fabia.

You realise the leon cupra r 210 actualy makes the same power as the 225, some say they infact have stronger internals

I got bored of my octy vrs after only a year and a bit of ownership, took me another year to get the car i wanted(an lcr 225 as it happens) and right now love it but praying to go i dont get bored of it coz i cant afford to change to anything else for a long time lol but i dont think any petrol head will ever be happy with what they have unless they have an infinite bank account.

Hopefully Renault will come back to me Tue with a good deal. Think i would be happy with the Megane 225 as i have always liked it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yeah the megs a good choice:thumbup: One thing make sure you get one with the cup pack as the normal 225 is not that great IMO...

Im selling my 225 Trophy if your interested just send me a PM:)

Paul.
