First at least they owned up to it

Second they are just getting a auote from a mobile man, doesnt mean you have to agree for them to fix it.

Both parties should agree otherwise take it up on the insurance.

Hope it all gets sorted though.

This is my first experiance of this kind of thing! Can i refuse to let their man do it and use a "proper" bodyshop instead? And can I insist that it goes through insurance, if they keep trying to get it done "on the cheap"?

So long as the daft bint is insured  Did you get her details?

Agree check her insurance first.Get another quote and go through your insurance company.Don,t trust them.

Wholeheartedly agree, there's loads of shysters out there that will bodge the job, give you your car back "repaired" and then you will have to hound, chase, threaten (you get the picture) to get a proper job (and you won't get another car while yours is being repaired).

Do it through the insurance, that way you should get a courtesy car, and a proper repair.

I didn't get her details, but they live in the house opposite my parents and they know them fairly well. I will get the reg number of her moped just in case! But there will no problem getting the insurance details out of them!

Nothing wrong with paintless dent removal, if done properly the damage can look better than new. Looking at the damage, apart from the smallish dent which the dent removal company should be able to remove the rest should just polish out.

The dealers use paintless dent removal to get parking dinks out of cars before selling them. And the quotes you have had so far will also include an element of dent removal.

Can the dent removal guys do the sill? thought they worked from the inside of the panel?

Possibly, its quiet shallow. At least if they could sort everything all the paint on the car would still be original.

You'd be better off going the paintless dent removal route, silver is a beggar to colour match correctly, and is virtually impossible due to the aluminium flakes in silver paint.

If you go through insurance, it's more than likely the insurance company will give you there list of 'approved' bodyshops. This is what happened when a bloke went into the side of my G60. He was with Zurich and they sent me the list but I simply said I wanted to go through the guy I knew who'd sprayed other stuff for me. Sent them a few quotes to show that they weren't being ripped off and they quite quickly gave the go ahead. No worries! Insurance companies CAN'T tell you who to go with as it's your property, not theirs.

On the fiddle side though, I know people who after a non-fault prang have gone to VW for a ridiculously high quote and then got a mate who sprays as a trade to put in a slightly lower quote so they get the work done and have a budget left over still to have other body stuff done. To the insurance company it looks like you're trying to keep the costs down to help them, but little do they know! Gotta be confident to do it though I guess.

BTW, if at all possible, try to have accidents with people insured by Zurich as they are VERY efficient!

I've heard that, but I just had my sill repaired after an incident with a jack (don't ask) by Listers in Coventry, and you cannot tell where the new paint is.

To the OP: as there is damage to the door, it will probably mean a good proportion of the side will need painting, hence £500. I would go with the insurance job, but don't use their approved repairer, as IME they are sh1te. Find either a word-of-mouth reccomendation, or a bodyshop with VAG approval- you'll need this to still keep the body warranty.

I have used a mobile (paint) man in the past and he was pretty good and 20% of the cost of a body shop. The scratch in the door means that a paintless dent removal man wont be able to do it (and if he does, the scratch won't be too obvious, until you look-Then you will notice it every time you look at your car-Not good). So, if they offer to provide a mobile guy that uses proper filler and paint then I would think about it. Ask to see some of his previous work and if up to scratch then go for it. If you don't like it then don't go there.

The reason why I say this is your parents live close to these folk and if they are offering you a reasonable alternative then it may make your folks lives easier than going down the alternative route and possibly upsetting their neighbours.

They can if there is a drain hole in close proximity to the dent, if there isn't they may drill a hole and then plug with a grommet afterwards. I wouldn't be happy with this, as it will remove some of the galvanisation from the metal and leave it prone to rusting.

I can see what TorqueDude is saying about keeping the neighbours happy, but if it was my daughter that had caused the damage i'd be trying to keep it as cheap as possible but would understand if it cost a lot. If they're the sort of people who would kick up a fuss if you want it done to your preference after they've caused the damage then surely they're not worth bothering about? It doesn't sound like there'll be a problem though as they did actually admit to it, which is admirable.

Then again, I AM a car fan so i'd see it as possibly someones pride & joy, whereas others would just see it as a car so what's the big fuss?

But then again, we're all probably like that otherwise we wouldn't be reading and writing on here, would we?

Try to get them to pay as going though insurance will bump your insurance up slightly even tho it wasn't your fault.

run the reg through askmid.com to check they are insured

as long as they are paying her insurance aint an issue they may want to pay as insurance will sting the poor girl.

i would however make sure you are happy witn the bodyshop they will agree

to keep the skoda paint and body warranty would it not have to go to a skoda approved bodyshop .

SWMBO was in an accident in my car last month and the whole thing has been sorted by dealing with the woman's insurance company direct. My insurance company didn't need todo anything and my premium will not be affected.

Hope you get it sorted soon, there's nothing worse than seeing damage to your pride and joy (especially if you didn't create the damage)

My insurance company didn't need todo anything and my premium will not be affected.

I have had two of these in the last years and come renewal time I have to declare that I have had two accidents which haven't been my fault and full recovery has been made. My premiums have definitely been increased.

Insurance companies=Licence to print money. We pay (and we pay for those scum who can't be bothered to pay their premiums) :finger:

Whats this nonsense about upsetting the neighbours? Didnt they crash into you? Dont they feel that they should help and not upset you the innocent party. If they are reasonable people they will do the right thing - if they are not I wouldnt give two hoots about upsetting them and do a big dump on their drive every night for a week - or get a pet to do it.

mine always ask if ive had any blameworthy accidents in the past so many years..

I know a really good bodyshop locally if you are still looking. He does lots of the local Skoda and Fiat stuff as well as one or two other large contracts.

Drop me a line if you want the details.
