slimfast for cars

Featured Replies

hi all

im on a mission to lighten my car in any way

i managed to loose 50kg at the weekend, also lost the 6 disc and converted to a single at the front, and i have a lightweight flywheel, whole clutch setup was 2kg lighter more friendly to the crank anyway

when i manage to save some pennies im hoping for a carbon bonnet, lighter wheels was thinking O.Z, lighter seats and any other ways

any 1 got any suggestions?

also car feels more nimble and quicker and its all standard

cool:thumbup:

Remove air con

Remove rear seats

Remove door cards/carpets

Electric motors doors/windows???

plastic windows, strip it out. acid dip the shell and remove all the rust proofing.. then seam weld it... but then add a cage... after this you can attack it with a hole saw and really get some weight out.

was thinking air con but i use that in the winter for getting rid of the condensation my water leak causes, nice

still thinking about carpets

i dont think i could go back to keep fit windows, unless you mean F40 style perspex

cheers

hi m8 you either really know what your talking about or your takin the bickies

i like your style either way:thumbup:

in this case im not taking the pi55......

Why don't you fix the water leak.

So you don't have to carry wet carpets with ya lol.

Steel wheels

Ditching the spare wheel and associated bits and bobs and that should save 20+ kg. Ditch all the seats, carpets and sound proofing from the shell and fit some fixed carbon buckets in the front. Ditch the airbags and all electrics not required for the basic operation of the car and use multi point harnesses. Get a custom exhaust on there made from thin walled stainless and using as few boxes as possible. The OEM one is designed for cheap manufacture, not minimum weight.

Steel wheels

popular misconception... they are lighter than cheap chav alloy wheels but not decent quality race ones.... also its not a saving if you go to lighter smaller diameter wheels if the tyres are heavier .... :)

Easy to do... On Forza on the Xbox, that is! :D

go on a diet yourself :P

Take out the glovebox, gear stick gaiter, remove the mud that collects behind the inner wheel arches (in fact just remove them), The grill inserts in the front bumper, engine under trays, engine cover, battery cover, alloy fuel tank?

By the time youve spent all this cash getting lightweight parts you could spend more on making it quicker...whats the drive behind it?? Extra speed?

On the wheels front, I've found some corkers thanks to a thread a few weeks back.....

Speedline 2021 wheels - Magnesium baby! (The ones used by the works WRC team)

and

Stupidly light wheels, with a stupidly heavy price tag! (£461+vat...... each!)

definate holesaw! look at rally cars the A pillars have holes up etc! its doing it in the right places though!!

and also as above itf you want to keep some comfort just go more power!!!!!

arch linings, smaller windscreen washer resevoir? loads of small bits but its where you draw the line!

hi m8

the drive is

better power to weight

better mpg

better handling

better acceleration

it works too i gave an R6 a run for its money, he was shocked

the way i see it i can pretty much only get 240bhp and similar torque without spending silly money, so if i make it lighter it will perform more like a car in a different class with more bhp/nm.

plus i havent bought a mod for a couple of months now, gutted

so i wanted too improve her in anyway,

exhaust sounds louder too nice:thumbup:

Not usually the a pillars drilled out. Usually the cage is tagged to the body using a strip of metal that can have holes in it.
