I wish, but the reputation BT have for throttling EVERYONE at peak time mean i dont get quick pr0n like you do...

175k/s max from usenet... bout 40k from torrents - now i can just about listen to a streamcast and surf the net.. gaming is out the question.. thanks bt

Why?

2.2-5 megabytes a sec on usenet here, I'm surprised I can still see :rofl::rofl::rofl:

I have an email from BT, and was informed that due to being a valued customer, they

would not be capping my download or speed??????

Heres a very interesting PDF from SAMKNOWS

page 35-36 shows the extent that BT throttles traffic... yet they still dont admit to it

I am very tempted to buy out the last few months of BT service and move to BE*

I'm surprised you're with BT at all Col. Plenty of better ISPs out there :D

I'm with BE since last Oct and have been more than impressed. No childish download caps here :P

Get movin'

Phone India.

Insist you are given the number of the Newcastle helpdesk. This will take some doing.

Then ask for your BRAS to be reset.

Then write a complaint the Durham about the shocking attitude and ineptitude of the overseas call centre only to have the letter sent to, you've guessed it, India... and nothing done to resolve the matter.

I'm not extending my contract with them when it next runs out. I'll take my landline away from them too.

The most expensive, and by far the least able to sort out problems. I had five different engineers in my house - all sent by India before I refused to deal with them any longer and they eventually gave me a number for Newcastle. Once speaking to Newcastle, the problem was identified within ten minutes (but it takes a few days for the full speed to come back...)

Another trick (because this will takes weeks to sort out) - the Indian call centre changes the PIN number they give you over the weekend. If you don't call them on a Friday and ask for the number for the next week, you'll be sent back to the beginning of the process (not that it makes any real difference as they all seem to read off the same script).

And, also, if they ask to "perform a line test and call you back" get them to call your mobile at the same time because they will not call back. And never allow yourself to be put on hold, because they will cut you off.

try plus net, they a small outfit but you dont get throttled and the up time has been very good. also if i have a problem i get through to someone straight away and if no one is there i can leave a message and have someone get back to me in about an hour (like at 4am lol) certainly wouldnt go back to one of the big ones now.

Plus net are BT and they do throttle, quite a lot.

You think that's throttled? NZ ISPs take you down to 64k if you hit your quota!!

With some of these quota's your better off on unmetered dialup. :thumbdwn:

It's ridiculous!

NZ ISPs do plans with 200Mb per month!

I used 84Gb last month!! (I get free data overnight)

How do you use 84gb in a month?

I used the same the month before as well! Torrents - and I uploaded as much as down, which is included in the total.

All TV shows - US and UK stuff. :D

To be fair to BT they have been excellent up until this year, apart from the homehub-Iplayer thing. and unfortunately had just re-newed the contract with them..

and usually im not a heavy downloader, only one or two HD eps a week.. although i constantly listen to streamcast radio which can vary from 128kbit to 256kbit constantly.. guess that could add up over a few hours.

Admittedly this weekend i have probably been pushing it having 40-odd gb in my usenet queue:rofl: but saying that usenet is throttled to 175k/s anyway how can that impact the network??

Ive checked thismorning and things are (almost) back to normal.

How do you use 84gb in a month?

I did 50 gig in one night a few weeks back :eek:

How do you use 84gb in a month?

I usually chew through about 90Gb a month, but thats only cause I get my HD content from a mate. :D

How do you use 84gb in a month?

By cutting down on my downloading quite a bit :D

I've run out of stuff to download now.

And disk space.

Three more weeks and it's all go again!

TBH they're all crooks these days, and all the good firms of old are now owned by the crap big firms.

Plus net are BT and they do throttle, quite a lot.

Yep, that's why I eventually moved from them, after 5 years. The quotas and warnings got me really quite annoyed.
