Leaking doors on Fabia

Featured Replies

We've had a lot of heavy rain recently and as the vRS is still sitting in my driveway waiting for the insurance to clear. When the rain cleared I checked the door seals. Both passenger doors seem fine at the moment but both drivers side doors both have water sitting on top of the seal. It' hasn't got into the car yet. All the carpets are dry at the moment. Is this what people mean in regards to leaking door seals?

If so can this be done under warranty? If so what do I say is wrong just say "the doors are leaking" or "the doors are leaking can you reseal the door carriers"?

I've found the fix on the Fabia vRS site so if not I'll get my mate to do it for me. Will I need any additional parts apart from sealant? If so can I have part numbers.

Thanks to all the respond

Martyn

I thought that the doors seals leaking was a problem that caused the interior carpets to get wet. I wouldn't of thought the seals being a little wet was an issue, after all they are what stop the water getting through?

If you run your finger under the rim of the door, you'll feel some drainage holes for any water which finds its way into the doors... could just be run off from those as you open the door? Noticed it run off on mine onto the metal vrs door strips a few times

dunno, just guessing :D but if your carpets aren't getting wet I wouldn't worry too much.

Yeah that's a point it could be just that. I'll watch it over the next few days to see what happens.

At what age/mileage does this tend to happen with the car or is it random?

If there is water sitting on top of the seals, the doors are leaking. If the car is still under warranty, get it booked in and the Stealers should reseal all four even if only one or two are leaking.

There doesn't seem to be a particular age or mileage when this happens. Some don't leak, others I think have leaked within the first year.

So what will I say to the dealer as the car is still under warranty? "The doors are leaking can you fix it?" Will it be the same/ similar fix to the one in the Fabia vRS site?

The fix is probably the same.

Just tell the dealer that the doors are leaking. Depending on the Stealer, they may or may not want to check for themselves before they reseal them. Skoda UK have instructed the Stealers to seal all four even if only one is leaking.

Awesome thanks. Any idea on how long it will take and what about waiting times for the work to be completed or does that depend on the stealer?

Depends on the dealer... having to wait about 9 days for them to take mine in again to fix the engine mount :( Should be able to offer you a courtesy car though if needed.

Would I have to pay extra for that or is that free under warranty and what sort of car would they offer?

i had this on the drivers side rear door, they supposedly resealed it and it carried on leaking, the dealership was amazed it still leaked! Now the carpet has gone weird on that side through continously being wet, can i claim this under warranty too?

Mines far from being in warranty but i have one booked. Should be free, if its not the dealers crap! They only give it you while yours is being fixed, and it'll be pot luck what it is... but it definitely won't be a vrs ;)

The carpet should be replaced under warranty if it has been damaged by water leaking through the door carrier. See below for a couple of photos showing where the water gets in.

Guess I've just joined the club too after.....

Had a good look again at mine, so far they've been no problem since March 05 but with the continuous periods of rain not letting up recently my door cards are now damp and water is sitting on the seal/inner plastic trim. Carpet feels OK at the moment but will have to attempt a sealng job on the carrier by the look of it.

Hope it dries out enough in the next few days to give the sealer a chance of adhering properly, you can wipe the suraces clean with degreaser but there's still the water trapped in the foam sponge behind the carrier that can seep out.

Don't fancy a re-riveting job unless its absoultely necessary!

Just an update on the door situation. Took it the LHT Skoda in Swansea, told them about the doors. The bloke who served me said that all the doors would have to be water tested first. However the man next to him (Paul I think his name was) asked for my keys, checked all the doors by hand and just said they all needed doing. It's booked in for next week and a lift home too.

my front doors leak on my fabia, they dont look like they have when you first get in it, then you drive along abit brake to a stop and it all pours forwards out of the door at the bottom! never mind only happens if its really heavy rain and its not really that much water.. :D

hope yours gets sorted mate

warranty doesn't cover water ingress,my dealer wouldn't do mine under warranty and wanted 170 quid to do both rear doors(like kcuf im paying that)

I'd find a new dealer, they are pulling a fast one

I had this and it cost me £70 to fix, i was not best pleased.

phoned skoda warranty direct and they told me the same thing

My doors are leaking also ,just waiting for some dry weather to make sure all the water has gone before i seal them up,just wet vac'd the seats and carpets last weekend but with all this rain the drivers side rear is wet again and starting to smell abit:thumbdwn: booo

Had an awful smell in my car for a couple of weeks now and after stumbling on this thread I now know what it is! The nearside rear footwell is soaking. Just taken it to my Skoda dealer and got it booked in for Wednesday morning. Whether or not they'll say it's covered under warranty is another matter!

Sealed the rear drivers side on mine this Sunday. Good dose of wet stuff today and seems to have worked.

Couple of pounds for half a dozen new plastic fasteners, & £6 worth of Wickes finest black external silicone sealant (will do all 4 doors).

Dried out the residual wet in the sponge felt gasket with a bit of pressure, some absorbent kitchen roll and finished off with the Mrs hair dryer for good measure (Aluminium conducts heat really well). Not a long or difficult job, once you've worked out how everything comes off.

Only 5 months out of warranty but not worth the effort to argue, would cost me more in time and diesel backwards and forwards to the dealers.

Worst bit was working out how to get the damn manual window winder handle off. Plenty of descriptions on here but no photo's. Its a great design concept when you finally work it out, but I'll post some photo's later - hopefully save others a bit of head scratching. :)

To stop the water coming in short term, black insulating tape around all 4 sides of the rear window glass works a treat, just keep the tape on the glass and rubber - it can damage your paint if left on there a while but keeps the rain out completely until dry enough to put the sealant around the carrier plate inside the door.

Hello I am having this trouble with leaking doors at this time, like the idea of them the temp fix black insulating tape, I have now work out how to remove everything holding card in place, but am dreading pulling the door card off any tips on it, looks like I should buy some plastic clips before staring, do they snap break off easy thanks Max.

Just dropped it off at the dealers. Told them to call me before carrying any work out cos I wanted it done under warranty (after seeing what other people have written on here about the problem). They said they may need to keep it overnight to check it out. I left it out for the past couple of nights and there has been lots of rain so the carpets are soaking and the seals are full of water (exactly like the pics elsewhere in this thread).

Right, just got to wait for that call now :)
