Scabby pollen filter!

Featured Replies

This photo doesn't do it justice. I found some plant growth too, and loads of leaves and compost. Had to hoover and scrape all the mulch out. Was lovely! Supposedly this was changed 12 months ago...

Oh and that scuttle panel was well easy to pull off, don't know what the fuss is about! :p

I got a brand new one that was the same colour as the one on the left, I think it's just a different type of filter/material?

My new one also looked like the one on the left.

how many miles have you done with that scabby filter in?

The darker one is the 'posh' carbon type isnt it? Designed to filter out nasty smells I think?

Mine was like that after a month of replacing it

Maybe, but mine was definately originally white like the new one. You can still see some white bits on the old one where the dirt hasnt got to it in places.

It's exactly the same part, so I was just amazed by how it had changed since last changed. But more amazed by the amount of rubbish I found in the scuttle area where it sits. The thing was buried in crap!

Should be less chance of nasty smells now hopefully....

I just did mine and it looked like it had never been replaced.

Its an 02 elegance.

On a side note i got this air con cleaner from Brown Bros

its an aerosol you set off in the rear footwell with the Ac

on full and hey presto 10 mins later the whole systems been cleaned.

Smells like a brand new car and only cost a tenner.

Your right Sally, they come in both types, luck of the draw which one you get so I was told.

20,000ish miles

cheers dont think i want to see what mine looks like then.

The dark one has charcoal in it so it filters out smells. The white one is just a cardboard.

Changed my filter aswell few weeks ago. Well, it wasn't pretty :D

decent demisters now then!

Do you fancy coming to do mine then? Tried it on the warmest day of the summer, hoping the plastic would be a bit more pliable but had no joy - just a few scuffed knucles.

Will have another concerted effort this weekend as I've put aside saturday to get all of the little niggles sorted while i do the service.

Pull it off parallel to the windows from the centre of the wndow, then work to the edge.

Theres a groove in your windscreen just underneath the rubber strip that runs along the screen. Theres a piece in the panel which sits in the groove. If you get your fingers under the rubber and pull the whole panel away not up or down just straight off from the screen it should just lift out. I always start in the middle.

Finally, a description of "how to remove the panel" that I actually understand!!

Is it hard to change this pollen filter as I don't think mine has been done in a while

It goes where I have circled and it's the outlined bit in the corner

Rob's Skoda vRS

If you look at some of the pictures here you can see a bit more of how and where it sits.

Shamelessly stolen from Rob's site of course

:D

they are charcoal filters slightly different to pollen filters.

It appears to be luck of the draw as too which filter you get as I have had one of each using the same part number each time.

wouldnt be easier to remove the ecu...

:D
