Coilovers on 2001 VRS Octavia?? problem

Featured Replies

A friend has asked i post this question as he does not get on the internet much.

He has bought some coilovers for his VRS from Fleebay and upon inspection there are no mounting points for the droplinks. According to him the standard shocks have points on them for the droplinks.

He is wondering how you get around this problem.

The coilovers are raceland

Any ideas.

Thanks

Without looking hard to say but a lot of octavias had the drop links bolted directly onto the lower arm and not the actual shock. If they are supposed to mount on the shock like Fabia 1 then you probably have the wrong parts

Words of wisdom. I think most Octys except the vRS have the droplinks picking up on the bottom arms.

Such being the case, I think the spring and damper rates will be wrong for your mate's car. Do the damper bodies carry a part number you could check with these people (who I've never heard of before)?

vrs drop link connects too the shock and roll bar iirc. Mk4 golf goes on to the bottom arm. Sounds like those Coilovers are for a non vrs or even a mk4 golf if it's later then they are wrong due car weight differences. That said they won't fit if they are for a non vrs octy.

Either way they ain't right tell him to return them.

As has already said, they are the wrong ones for the car and sounds like he has golf ones. I wouldnt buy anything like this from ebay, I have never heard of raceland. For piece of mind always buy from a reputable dealer where you can go and talk to them before hand, eg. Jabba/Awesome/IP. You may pay slightly more, but in the long run you get something thats reliable and is correct for the car weight.

Why do so many people insist on buying cheap cr*p for their cars?

It does not make financial sense as the dampers will leak after a few months, springs have been known to snap and are not really safe in my opinion. Bet they are not TUV tested or anything like that!

I hear what your saying, and agree to a point, but everyone has a budget! It pays though to do your homework first before splashing out!

Seems like they get a mixed review on various forums quiet a few people having trouble with them and apprently there are TUV approved.

I understand about peoples budget but can't understand why people would pay 200 quid to make their car less reliable and potentialy dangerous. Either leave it standard or get a reputable brand. Or go and buy a fiesta or Clio because the Vrs is not the best car for tho's on a budget. Many people have fitted poor quality products and it's cost them in the long term - TUV approved - I'd be very surprised but what components and test time scale were used?

For some reason! some people tend to think that any after market product will be better then standard, not always the case! I agree with you leave it alone or get a reputable brand, your better of waiting and saving your money rather then going out buying cheap stuff which properly wont last and could make the car worse then before.

TUV approved so they say! but put it this way i would'nt buy them.

you can use the coilovers from an audi tt, i did that on my vrs 2001 model.

i have koni coils by the way.

these are tuv approved but not for octy then.

You have to be careful when it comes to coilovers

The rear of the Octy is heavier than the MK4 Golf too

Sorry , be carefull as they are different

As we both know from experience...:D:D:D

Stick with KW's, yes, I know they are dearer, but they are designed for the Octy vRS and more to the point, they really do work.

Hi

Yes they worked for you eh Gerry? ;)

Must admit too , when you get that bit older too , you need to have good handling on the car and not too hard for your back eh ;)
