A bit of water/meth testing tonight. Video!

Featured Replies

Thought I'd nip out and get some video

Quality is shocking but those who know the car will know gearchanges/Vs speed. The 12 o'clock point is the 60mph mark, and I shift just under that out of 2nd. The last run is done in 3rd.

Throttle on each occasion is fed in smoothly, and all acceleration done on WOT without a care in the world for any smoke being chucked out. :)

(click on watch in high quality :))

I did a rough calculation and I make the first run 30mph to 80mph in about 6.5 seconds, through 2nd and 3rd gears. (8 seconds if you include change into 4th gear and bit of a burst to 90 then stop) The power doesn't half feel strong though.

Ouchy - Been waiting alongtime to see that Jas!

Good video - Car sounds so beefy!

looks quick jason :)

Feck me Jas! thats a beastie mate. I presume your well chuffed with the results lol

p.s. sort that cell light out lol lol lol

nice one mate.

Rather rapid rise of the righthand needle...:D

I tried a bit of WOT on mine the other night, and tbh mine is now actually scary-fast  ...and this with only 15% ethanol and at 36 deg C ambient....

If its "scary fast" to you bas, then it must be mental lol

yeah cool but why's ya engine warning light on?

I'm guessing EGR bypass mod.....could be wrong though. :D

That thing bloody shifts though. Watching that video coming from a standard car, to a mapped car, then seeing that needle rise in that fashion - that's quick but smooth too.

As you say, if you know the vRS it gives you a better feel for perspective.

Makes you wonder why water/ ethanol injection is not used more widely by manufacturers themselves? If it can reduce intake and exhaust temps to such a degree surely it's good for emissions as well as power?

Yup - And hopefully it will be mapped out on my next mapping session. :)

Bear in mind that this video is done with my car "not running right" - Has a circa 2000rpm off-throttle misfire, and still smokes bad.

Looking forward to tomorrow's dyno run though.

its a second rev counter lol, seriously how much more bhp do you reckon thats given you?

That wastegate noise sounds sweeeet! I want mine to sound like that!

Guess I would need to be running that sort of power first though!

OEM WI systems: "It surfaced again in the 60's when GM used a system on the OEM turbo Corvair. It was used effectively in Formula 1 before being banned for adding too much power"

1983 volvo offered it as an OEM option: 1983 Volvo 242 Group-A Turbo

Thing is for your average driver, needing a tank of water/alcohol every time you fill up with fuel, would be a bit of a pain....

Well, from the feel of it, bearing in mind no NOS is being used in the video, I reckon I have gained about 25 to 30bhp.

Shall find out for sure tomorrow I suppose as I rough guess that my car was around the 240bhp mark before I installed the water/meth. :)

So with NOS and water/ booze - what's your guess?

I'm going to say 270bhp. :) I'm seriously considering running it without the NOS to get a real-world power output idea.

That's....not slow!

Nice. :)

How laggy is that kind of power? Getting visions of huge amounts of boost that doesn't kick in till 3,500 rpm.....

Bet it's fun though, either way. :D

Dunno about Jase's, but on mine - not at all laggy. If anything, it seems that the turbo spools up faster.

With the controller starting its 15% flow at about 0.8BAR and ramping it up to 1.8BAR (max spike 2.1BAR) it's just an uber-smooth rush of power. It comes in with boost, regardless of the rpm.

It's pretty sluggish below 2000rpm. You can see from the vid that I start off around 20mph and feed in the throttle. Once at 30mph in 2nd I'm over 2000rpm and that's when I hoof it WOT and it picks up very nicely. Nowadays I try to pottle along at 1500rpm generally. The car pulls fine at that revs, but if I need power for some reason, it needs to be knocked down 2 cogs to get the most. I would say 2500rpm is the kind of revs I like to use WOT from - very little lag and the start of my serious power too.

Heheheh. I'm usually changing UP at 2,500!

if a 250bhp car is scary fast to you Bas then god knows how you'd cope with a proper car!! :D

would it be worth fitting one these kits to the standard SMIC?

now, now matey - be nice:). Your opinions on anything Fabia are well-known..:D

Perhaps "mental" is a better description.

Have handled my share of powerful cars in my time...

looking good jase.... the speed of movement of that right hand needle is very impressive.....

i didn't say anything about the fabia :P
