Tip: amazing cheap brake dust remover

Featured Replies

Been struggling to clean off baked-on brake dust from the alloys.

After trying several cleaners, I decided to try spraying WD-40 on a rag.

result: baked-on brake dust wipes off as easy as pie!

Stuff that resisted Meguir's wheel cleaner, hand cleaner, hard rubbing.

followed by a washing and some wax to prevent another build-up.

Its good isn't it. I use WD40 on my rims quite regularly. Better tha any wheel cleaner i have tried

Been using W5 wheel mits from Lidl which were £1.49 for 12 and smell very muchly of orange. These are excellent!

wd40 fixes/repairs anything from the years ive had the stuff. great on bike chains, cables. i knew of a dj who lubricated his lp's with the stuff to protect them. oh its great for removing damp if your car wont start too

wd 40 also does this

but its very good at removing sticky residue from tape and numberplate sticky pads

Remember not to spray it directly onto the brake disc/pads... otherwise you might have a shock the first time you need to stop! :)

it tastes nice too, i wonder if it can be used at a 'love' lubricant

Great for removing wax/polish residue from trim.

''removes adhesive from bird's wings''

lol pss takers.

I did my wheels yesterday with the following:

1. shampoo and rinse

2. brake dust removal with a toothbrush and WD40

3. shampoo and rinse

4. treatment with Turtlewax brakedust barrier

I'm going to see how I get on with the brakedust barrier, apparently next time I clean the wheels the brakedust should just rinse off

Mixed with Pernod it makes a refreshing summer drink - though GT85 has more of a kick.

ooh yeah i love GT85, smells like christmas

you ride then?

The guy fitting new tyres rubs most of my brake dust off with his hands. I wash my car twice a year, if it needs it or not.

:eek:I asked where I could buy some WD40 and my mate said have you tried boots so I said I wanted it to slip in NOT march in !
