EBA's got me as well

Looking at new front wing, new drivers door, new rear door, new sill, new B Pillar and lots of other front suspension and steering related parts, topped off with a full respray of the drivers side :(

I was going to post and say I bet you were glad you had the Almera in front of you,but I scrolled down to see a quite sizeable amount of damage.

I'd guess it might have got the B pillar, did it get any side airbags too as that would increase your chances of a write off. Personally unless it's damaged the floorpan, the B pillar and a few other bits that are expensive I can't see it being written off.

Either way, good luck with it all, I hope you get it sorted.

You say the guy was done by the police, I really hope it wasn't for driving without insurance, as around my neck of the woods, that's a very common thing with a lot of the Polish drivers. Not all, and maybe even no more than the UK ratio, but certainly enough to make it noticeable.

Johnwg has already said the car has been assesed and is being repaired, so I guess the airbags did not deploy.

Johnwg

A good repair should not detract from the value of the car, it will not be recorded on any register either as its not been written off so the value of the car should remain unchanged.

The structure should also be unaffected. All the parts that they are replacing are welded into place anyway, as were the originals.

With the care being silver, I'd be asking for a total respray as it's very hard to blend or at least being offered the option for that at a very good price.

Sorry folks, police speak again

Excess Breath Alocohol = EBA, ie drunk driving.

No he wasn't, the Police breathalised all drivers involved as it is force policy down here.

Most forces in the UK will whip out the breath box after an RTI. Wonder if he was either having a domestic with the missus, telling the kids off or being an ar5e.

ISTR it is an actual requirement, even if whether you were sober or paralytic would have had no effect on the occurance, say because you were rear-ended whilst stationary at red traffic lights.

Well there's only one person who knows that

Well there's only one person who knows that

And you can bet he will won't admit to any of them.....

Car has been assessed and will be repaired (estimated cost of damage is £3-4k), so I'll be getting it back....

Whether or not I'll be keeping it for long after I'm not sure, suppose I'll have to wait and see how it looks and if it still feels the same to drive if you know what I mean

Stupid question but is there a depreciation value included in that. Dunno about the UK but in Ireland if the car is damaged and depending on its year your entitled to a depreciation amount as a percentage of the value of the damage (after all technically even if the car is as good as new its still de-valuved due to the accident).

in the uk, the cars accident history is not recorded anywhere unless the car is written off by the insurance company. As the car is being repaired no record will be kept that the car has been in an accident, so the value should remain unafffected.

yep, i nearly turned an audi quattro over on a hump back bridge when i was about 19:O

A mate of mine (years ago) took a hump back bridge at speed on the Tour of Mull, assuming that the road carried straight on - like the line of telegraph poles..

It didn't - it took a detour round some rocks :eek::eek::eek:

Car hit one of said telegraph poles :mad:

Post Office Telephones 1, Ford Escort 0 :o:O

I'd say even less of a history is recorded here, but its doesn't get away from the fact that the car is still depreciated by the accident.

I was told about the depreciation thing for someone who is well in touch with the insurance industry in Ireland and I did get it after my tip. It had to be requested rather than automatically given.

I had a wing replaced on my silver Fabia (taxi reversed into it) and you couldn't tell it had been done.

Update, won't be seeing the car again till the end of October... it was almost written off, as on top of the £3-4k worth of parts there's 50 hrs+ work of labour to go on there, bumping it up a tad....

As far as I'm aware the driver of the Audi is still being charged with dangerous driving, and I'm having all sorts of fun and games regarding a insurance/body shop hire car whilst the works being done as apparentley your not allowed to put 'pets' in them, which is no good when you need your car to transport your greyhound around

People on here are all high and mighty aren't they? I am sure that a fair number of us have made stupid, even dangerous decisions in a car, even if we think of ourselves as good drievrs (which is where the mistake lies). He made a mistake and unfortunately an accident occurred from that. It doesn't matter whether he is Polish, Greek, Turkistani or British. I know plenty of people like to use any opportunity to have a dig at other nationalities but they need to grow up. He either didn't see or misread the warnings, unweighted over the bridge and probably stuffed the brakes on hard which sent him into those cars. Yes, the police have had a word with him by the sounds of things but people weren't there, people didn't see the exact impact speed (and it's difficult to be objective if you yourself have been in the accident) and the police are those who need to make a judgement, not forum members. It could be he was driving like a complete prat and deserves a ban, it could well be it was a simple and honest mistake and no actions need be taken other than perhaps an advanced driving course.

It's very easy to be a critic online by simply calling the other party a '****' or whatever else you choose to describe him but that doesn't change the fact that you didn't see what happened and are only jumping to conclusions.

Your right it makes no difference where they come from as comon sense should be the same everywhere.

Basic fact that outweighs everything else regardless: His actions caused an avoidable accident, mistake or not he did it and he could have killed someone doing it. He made a concious choice to drive like at a speed too great for the conditions before him. That's not jumping to a conclusion as that is the situation.

If the cap fits, he most certainly needs to wear it.

Well put. I don't understand what's "excessively condemnatory or judgemental" about saying that I make mistakes, but not involving takeing blind crests at twice the speed I can see!
