Dukes of Hazzard - When it goes wrong

An Audi A6 decides to take a hump back bridge at what must have been close to the NSL, not realising that over the crest of the bridge the road turns to the left

Coming the other way was this car (doing about 10mph)

The Audi A6 (due to its speed) carries on after hitting the first car taking out a rather nice Skoda Octavia VRS in Estate format (my car)

Bye bye Skoda

Feel a bit numb to be honest, quite suprised that I'm not hurt by an Audi slamming into me at such a speed... even more suprised that non of the people on bikes who were going over the bridge at the same time (hence the fact that the 2 cars were only doing 10mph) were not killed.

One thing for sure I hope they write it off, don't think the car would ever feel the same to me after this

The main thing is that you're ok.... The car can be repaired / replaced.....

The other thing i wanted to say in relation to the audi driver is...... what a ****!!! :finger:

Cheers

Dave.

:( Glad no one was hurt though mate. You were bored of the car anyway :)

OUCH , Feel for ya bud :(

that looks like a scrapper to me, bent the b pillar...

glad you weren't hurt

Feel for you. What a **** of a driver, I would have givin the guy in the Audi a few injuries if I was there.

As I was leaving the scene the Police were reading said Audi driver his rights.

He also had his wife and 3 kids in the car

Ouch indeed, car damage to yours at least doesnt seem to bad. The doors and B pillar are listed as separate parts on the skoda catalogue, so assuming the chasis is not bent then I expect your car to repaired.

If they write the car off, expect to see it back on the road again after its purchased from a salvage yard and repaired as a cat 'D'.

At the end of the day though, as long as all parties are ok thats the main thing.

nice to see you got plenty of photos for the insurers. hope you get it sorted and everyone is ok. can i suggest you go back and get a pic from the otherside of the bridge showing the road sign showing left bend after hump bridge ;)

mate, thats not nice. Glad your OK and glad no-one was hurt. Hopefully Mr **** will get a ban so as not to endanger people lifes like that again.

So sorry to see that John (I think I know where that bridge is) Were you the only one in the car? ..... take it easy for the next few days, it may not feel too bad at the moment but I bet your neck or back will start aching soon.

but I bet your neck or back will start aching soon.

yeah, sting em for an injury claim:)

He deserved a bit of a de-breifing at the roadsie then mate, military style. Glad your ok though mate, must have been a horrible feeling sitting there seeing it all unfold.

I don't think there's a book big enough to throw at someone like that. Should never have happened, all sorts of unnecessary risks and his family in the car :(

If the insurance company write it off, find out how much they want to sell it back to you, then sell it to me and I'll repair it!!:D

Sorry to see and read about your loss.

I'd be well pi55ed, but as has been said, a car can be replaced, you cannot!

What a **** indeed, shouldn't get his license back. I kinda know how you feel if it's repaired, would e nice to have it written off, if you have GAP insurance too. Well done for getting loads or pictures too.

Thanks for the response guy's... the fun and games will start tomorrow no doubt at 9am when I ring the insurance company....

The old neck and right shoulder are starting to feel a tad stiff now, time for a hot bath and an early night me thinks... hopefully have a positive update tomorrow

ouch

glad you're okay.

Pleased nobody was hurt:thumbup:. Looks like it’s true what they say about Audi drivers…..they are the new BMW drivers:D

So i suppose all of the people who are criticising the Audi driver have never gone to fast around a corner (they might have not been around before) or never had a "boy that was close" moment.

All perfect drivers who never speed and have never misjudged something.

Its an accident, called that as its not done on purpose. I'm sure given the option now the Audi driver would have chosen not to have taken that corner/bridge quite so quick, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Glad everyone is ok though.

Although your views are more than valid the fact the driver was charged by the Police at the scene of the 'accident' say's a lot.

I would be more intrested in your views on the damage to my car and how much the repairs would cost, at an establishment such as Unit 18 ???

I agree, but I've had that argument here (about the word 'accident').

I'm sure all of us have misjudged a corner before now- just usually, we get away with it, and learn from it.

That doesn't make it right, of course, and isn't much help to the OP with a badly dmaged car...

There would have been enough information available to the driver to make the right choice about how he approached the bridge. As it happens it looks like he chose to ignore that information which is at very least DWDCA.

Yes it was an accident in the literal sense of the word but if the Audi driver had driven according to the road conditions dictated then this would npt have happened.

I did a very similar thing many years ago in an almost identical layout on a strange (to me) road (a hump bridge over the Aylesbury branch of the Grand Union Canal) got away with it, just. Definitley my worst moment/mistake in a car.
