heatsoak in the vrs

Featured Replies

been of to the coast today, round the twisty hills of wales, after a while i noticed the boost not being as strong,i presume due to heatsoak, any quick and easy things to get rid of this?is the intercooler in the same place as the seat leon down in the front left hand wing,i'm thinking of maybe running a cold air feed pipe up to it from the front valance.

i take it a FMIC does a proper job,and i can only geuss that this is gonna be bloody expensive.i have searched but this brought up very little ;)

Could be 2 things.

1) as said already, heatsoak

2) you have already got used to the power, she is still as fast but it somehow doesnt feel the same. Next time look in the mirror and watch those cars disappear.

Perhaps the slippery modding slope is next.

i am almost certain its heat soak mannyo, once we got onto some nice open roads and got some air moving ,it was back to its uasual grin inducing best, gonna have a look and see if i can open up some flow to the intercooler(when i've found it :) )

The intercooler is hidden away on the right hand (offside) of the car behind the lower vent on the front bumper. A lot of people her have cut away the wheelarch liner to improve airflow and they say it does make a difference.

some have added vents to the wheel arch too, apparently this aids air flow through the intercooler.

I've arranged the GB (which is still available from the link above) have fitted a nice aluminium louvre (from B&Q) in the wheel arch liner and have successfully installed the waterspray kit - now tested after 1000+ miles driving in France on holiday.

It definitely makes a difference, and as has been previously said is caused by the intercooler acting as a heatsoak. The spray tends to come on after the initial boost when the temp of the air flow in the intercooler is hot enough to warrant a spray and the engine power is sufficiently high enough. When on motorways the natural airflow generally means it is cooled enough, but on A and B roads where you don't get as much airflow it really comes into it's own and gives you that cold air boost you get on cold damp mornings.

A good option if you can't afford a FMIC

Take off the engine cover and material from the underside of the bonnet, it might help reducing temperatures.

cheers for the replies, engine cover is my first thing, see what coil packs are on it too.

no under bonnet carpet, gonna get jiggy with the stanley knife then, trust me to be looking under the wrong side of the car for it

Check out Group Buy section....there's a Jabba FMIC group buy in process.....stillw ating for Jabba to produce but the cost isn't going to be as expensive as FMICs currently available.
