Tesco's 99 RON fuel

Featured Replies

What are peoples thoughts on this stuff who use it in their Octavia II vRS's? Is it any good? The reason i'm asking is because the only 99 ron fuel i can get in Ireland is a similiar brew to this. It has 5% ethanol in it.

quite a few people use it along with vpower and ultimate, personally the tanks worth i tried i wasnt happy with it, mine prefers vpower.

Don,t use any Supermarket branded fuels at all.Bad experiences in the past.:thumbdwn:

I've gotta be honest - I use standard 95RON Tesco fuel in my vRS and she seems more than happy.

I dunno - maybe I'm missing out on something at the top end.

Maybe I'm not getting quite so many miles to the gallon.

tesco 99 or optimax.... both work really well in turbo engines....

I use V-Power normally and Tesco 99 isn't available in the North East but I did try a tank full of it when we were away in Bournmouth and I have to say I was pretty impressed.

Those that can't tell the difference between 99 and 95 obviously aren't driving their cars hard enough :)

every tesco i have been in recently has 99 in lieu of their normal super.... i would re check your local store - including in the north east

trust me they don't have it up here...

The Tesco on Salters Road in Newcastle has it, I just bought some this afternoon.

Didn't even know there was a Tesco on Salters Road? Is that in Gosforth? I have always checked at Kingston Park and they never have it.

The fuel here isn't a supermarket fuel it's in a Maxol station and is a similiar fuel to the tesco mix ie 5% ethanol which makes it up to 99 ron. I filled it up today with it and i thought i might have noticed a little more power around the redline, it seemed to go on longer in third but could be my imagination.

Hey Jonno, its actually on Kenton road, right at the bottom by the round about on Salters road (Gosforth) they have it. TBH though i cant tell any difference between it an v-power. The Shell garage just over the bridge in gateshead is doing v-power for £1.13 a litre so its cheaper too.

I have only ever used Tesco 99 from the day i picked up my VRS.

The engine is designed to run super unleaded to give optimum performance both short and long term, so that is what i will be using.

Originally i tried the stuff with just a remapp and i found no difference. However since i put a full turbo back exhaust and the map tweaked there is a noticable difference when i use it:thumbup:

Are there any such tests on diesel fuel ?

Ive been told fuels like tescos 99 may give more power under full load but it requires a bigger bang to ignite it initially, something to do with the chemicals added to raise the octane hense on average driving you will use more fuel getting a reduced mpg.

I tried Tescos 99 in my tuned Octy when shell had no fuel & it started like a bag of pooh, also mpg was worse. Went back to shell & a couple of tanks later it was back to its happy self. Personally Ive heard so many horror stories about supermarket fuel that I jusu dont take a chance on it anymore. I even stick to shell for diesel these days. We are lucky having a shell opposite Tescos so theres always a price war going on.

i did this too and the car hated it. shell seems to be the one for mine and recommended by many on here. did notice the other week down at winchester the competitive prices whilst waiting for mr fish.

I tried Tesco 99 in mine and I thought it was as good as, if not better, than Shell V-Power.

i have noticed that the VAG engines do tend to be different, its not like ford engines prefer garage x to y. ive noticed on here some peoples cars get on better with bp and not shell, total garage over texaco while someone else gets better results from shell to bp and tesco's to shell and vice versa. i think really its up to you what you use, try a few tanks of each, see how you get on and go from there.

Used Tesco 99 in my 2.0FSi because 98 was recommended and we don't seem to have it down here, only 97 or Tesco 99. I liked it.

Also, started off my 1.8TSi on 95, put it up to 99 after 2 tankfuls and it seems much better.

Takes a couple of tanks to work through and "wash out" the 95.

I use Tesco 99 or Vpower. Don't notice a difference between them.

Won't use 95 unless I'm forced.

Filled up the other week on Tesco's 99 cause I was very low and in an area I didn't know and am glad I don't normally run the car on it. Compared to Shell VPower the tick over was lumpier and the car just didn't seem as happy on it. Car is now back on its normal diet of Shell and seems much better.

i reckon if you ran a few full brim to empty tanks of the stuff the car would probably get to like it, but like you Alan, i run vpower all the time and moving to anything but vpower you do notice the difference.
