De-Cat Questions.

Featured Replies

Decided to slam the De-Cat on yesterday in the wet and cold.

Not really the best job without a ramp.

So after alot of faffing about an hour later she was fitted.

On start up alot of reek and quality sound!

1) The few times i stared my motor up it smelled inside the cabin quite a bit, normal?

2) Power/Torque gains? I think it has made a real difference, but it might just be me hopeing. It was wet last night and giving it some boot away from traffic lights. What felt like my clutch slipping (might have just been traction control kicking in ) upgraded clutch time? 280lbft before de-cat.

3) When cruising about 40mph in 4th, like i usually do. Seemed to be a bit of booming coming from the exhuast (like when your window is down on the motorway) its not too bad, but is it normal?

Ohh and it sounds AMAZING! :D

I may be wrong but i thought it was not advised to de-cat the fabia with the standard turbo???

Mentioned many times before its fine

I haven't got one myself but my clubs hybrid ibiza has.

Smell in the cabin is not good, but it might be normal for a week or so untill the crap is cleared from the system?

Booming is stange as my friends only realy has this on HARD ACCELERATION with a large boot. Crusing around we hear nothing more then the standard ehaust.

I wanna de-cat!! Let me know how you get on with it fella... Are you just linking it up to the std system?

Will the de-cat make it fail an mot as a petrol car de-catted would?

No

Apparently no cat for a derv is fine in the UK

Love mine - it's a really good mod.

And if you decide to go OTT - remove the backbox as well, lol

Bas

My de-cat booms between 1900 - 2000 rpm, no smell in cabin but reeks like a no. 42 from outside hth

System is a Miltek.

Andrew

Had my decat on about 3 months.

No smell in the cabin, except if you are reversing with your windows down, even then its not very bad

Stinks pretty bad if leaving the engine running and going to get something from the boot.

A little bit of booming if holding the revs between 1800 and 2000rpm

Dead silent exhaust 2000-2500

Above 2500 esp. 3000 it sounds like a shark attacking a dragon headed lion.

Definitely felt more responive afterwards - a lot more free revving at higher rpms

Is their much more smoke with the decat ?

I havn't noticed any extra smoke.

I get a big puff of white smoke at startup - could be down to my CCV bypass though or something like that.

I get no smoke when booting it or driving normally.

so is it bad for the turbo or not??

I think the consensus is that it depends on your Map, any spikes in your boost pressure and there is more likely to be damage to a std turbo with a de-cat.

I have had mine in my cupboard for months, was put off with the theory of it naffing the OEM turbo! i'll just wait till i get a stage 2 turbo :)

boost pressure is electronically controlled

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

Yeah its just running off the standard turbo and standard exhaust.

Smell seems to have gone now, just the first few start ups.

I can confirm that a cat is not needed for a diesel.

If there are problems with the life of the standard turbo running no cat, well, if it breaks get a better one!

Ran an OEM turbo with a straight pipe for several months - no probs.

HTH

Bas

de cate miltek and standard turbo for a year with no problems

and i still havent got round to a remap :(

That looks like the Allard big bore downpipe - Is it? :)

Which de-Cat pipe is that mate?

Im sure it was a magnex one that was for sale on here? Might be wrong.

So back to Crail to see the difference? Any excuse!

Ive been runnning my decat for a month or two now (fitted it 3 days after buying the car :-). You can really notice the difference in pull. Raced a standard VRS and left him standing.

Looks like a magnex if you wanted to know...

Enjoy
