Ideas for budding "entrepreneurs"

Featured Replies

With the constant problems re speeding etc, why can't manufacturers have speedos which clearly mark 30 MPH 40MPH and 70MPH, these being the primary maximum speeds on most British roads nowadays. Perhaps an audio signal at each speed or a colour coded display area or heaven-forbid "limiters" at designated/pre-determined speeds.

These would allow the driver to be more aware of the speed they are driving at.

O.K. it wouldn't stop the 'boneheads" but it would assist the law-abiding!

Hope I've not given away a fortune here??????:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Is this a joke? :rubchin:

Rob.

Perhaps a nice audio signal saying "Slow down stupid", or more radically "speed up dummy"?

What about 50MPH as well?

better include a warning to stop at red lights, a talex lite does a similar job to what to what are suggesting , I,ll confess to using one myself. cheers Mellyboy

I like 60mph sometimes and can I vote for 82mph as I like to set my cruise to that.

Actually now I think about it, perhaps I could have a dial with all the speeds on it!:D

It is done in europe, a lot of cars have the thing at their local town speed marker.

Since you've now written it on the internet however your idea is considered published, so non patentable and not worth owt as anyone can copy it. However since it was already done it never was anyway plus kind of falls into the obvious and trivial clause too.

Vauxhall seem to have a red line at the 30mph on their speedos.

I think its a pointless idea. I know where 30mph is, its where my speedo says "30". Really quite simple :P

Citroen have a limiter that you can set at whatever speed you like, similar to cruise control except the car just won't go faster when you stamp on the accelerator.

yeah i had this in my c4, it was brilliant for making sure i didnt go over the speed limits in the average speed camera zones :)

you just pushed a little harder on the accelerator to clear it and whizz off! i think its a great idea, one i'd have again given the choice

Some manufacturers do not have the 30 mph on the speedo just a red line in between the 20 and 40mph marks.

Football I wouldnt be worried, you havent given away your fortune yet.

Any other ideas?

Better to have speed camera warning alerts built into the speedo. Like sat nav but not quite. Interesting topic thoe. Or how about we burn the cameras down, no wait, we pay for them in many ways. Ouch.

Sod it. I speed and so do 95% of the populous. Not crazy speeds but deffo 34 in a 30 zone at times.

Bring the Romans back along with the Germans then we could do ....MPH in a straight line with no traffic lights.

Forward 2008 AD.

The romans have invaded. They hit the M25. They go around, slow down, stop and get a parking ticket. They speed up go around and get a speeding ticket. Sod it they think let us go home.

The story fades up from black again and we discover that the worlds car manufacturers have all gotten together and invented a thing known as a speedometer. A marvellous device that shows off mankind’s inventive spirit in all it’s rather finite glory. It can tell you what sped you are travelling at regardless of whether it be 30mph or 58mph. what will they think of next?

I upgraded the firmware on my Tom Tom and now that 'bongs' when you go over the speed limit, very aircraft like sound and doesn't seem to originate from the Tom Tom which is quite cool.

what will they think of next?

Amanda...I hope you're sitting down for this, as it will no doubt astonish you more than you've ever been astonished before.

Those mad cap car manufacturers have only gone and started fitting things called "accelerators" and "brakes" to cars...when used in conjunction with the speedometers of which you speak, a driver can use it to *actually* make the car travel at the speed they want it to.

Fortunately, for people who don't have the inclination or ability to be able to do this, some bright spark has come up with trains, busses and taxis, where someone else will do the job for you. :)

They think of everything don’t they. Mind you BMW still haven’t fitted ‘you know whats’ to my car yet. Have they been invented yet? Or can I make a killing?

Do you mean wing mirrors?

It would explain why so many of your brand of car pull out without looking, but it appears Audi and Mercedes appear to be following the trend of not fitting them too judging by their drivers.

And Skodas, judging by the number of times I have nearly been hit by them while riding my bike. I posted up the reg of one them (a VRs octy) in the ‘Spotted’ section, but surprisingly nobody owned up to apologise.

The University of Leeds Institute for Transport Studies has actually tested a device that prevents drivers going above the speed limit. Interestingly they used a Skoda Fabia elegance estate I think to test the device. See here Department for Transport - Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA)

Thing is these devices could be included in the black boxes for road charging - but they won't be because the data provided by the black boxes can be used to fine you. Better to let you break the speed limit and take your money, than to prevent you going above the speed limit at all...

But bikes and bikers don't count in this thread.

So your baby beemer is missing rear-view mirrors AND indicators? Wow, next they'll be dispensing with the drivers...

Ah but unlike most manufacturers they actually build cars for drivers.

Funnily enough I am a member of the babybmw forum, but it's not as lively a place as Brisky.

Here's my bright enterpreneurial idea! as used by BMW

I drive a couple of hundred miles a day visiting customers in a van and a variable speed limiter that I can adjust would be very useful. A heavy van can creep over the limit if you don't concentrate the entire time. If I could set 50 60 or 70 as appropriate it would be very useful.

If GPS can be used to switch off a limiter when on a racetrack surely it could be applied to this.

how would your theory work if the speedo cable snapped, and it constantly displayed zero?

Most VWs have a 'speed warning' option on the MFD which you can set to any speed you so wish and it will bong as you pass it and display 'speed exceeded' on the dash.

Quite a handy gismo.

Now to print these out and stick them under the wipers of some BMW's at the local supermarket....:rofl::rofl::rofl:
