reg date ?

Featured Replies

if your car was due to arrive mid to late dec would you wait until jan to register it just so it becomes a 2009 reg and not 2008. i know it will still be a 58 plate and james at allams tells me it wont make any difference to resale value. I am just thinking it might "sound" better when you come to sell it "its a 58 plate, 2009 registered"

opinions please !

thanks

It might, but then you might get less for your car on a trade-in a couple of weeks later with it being older and a change in calendar year... I'd have thought mileage would have made more of a difference, but interestingly whatcar indicative valuations suggest about £700 difference on a 2007 57 plate v 2008 57 plate car. I'd probably wait if the deal is set in stone.

£700?

It doesn't make that much of a difference really. No one would pay an extra £700 for a car 1 month younger, unless maybe it put it into the lower old-style taxation system.

In reality I generally value used cars based on what the plate says as that is how a lot of people work out a cars age. To a lot of people a car registered on Sept 1st will have the same plate as one registered 20th Feb and therefore be the same value.

Which is why I thought it had more to do with mileage than exactly the month the car was reg'd in. I was surprised, but a 2009 does have slightly more appeal to me though, and for the sake of a week (especially over xmas) I would wait. My excitement would stop me though, and I'd get it as soon as it was available

it might end up naturally being jan anyway. looks like build week has gone from wk 45 to wk 46.

Wouldn't make a difference to me. If it was changing from a 58 to a 09 then I would definitely wait, but as you've said it doesn't.
