Brand New VRS Estate CR 170BHP Remap Advice

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Looking at remapping my VRS, the new Common Rail Diesel Unit, purely for economy reasons, although the extra power will come in handy when overtaking and getting out of trouble. The car only has 700 miles on the clock so maybe its best to wait.

I have seen a lot of posts regarding the PD170 units, but nothing on the CR 170 (I assume it also has DPF).

I live in the North East of England near Middlesbrough.

Can anyone advise on :-

1) Somewhere local or within an hours drive.

2) Remap or Chip

3) Will it be warranty/insurance friendly

4) Typical cost and typical payback period based on the better mpg and 12000 miles per year.

Thanks

1- No idea sorry.

2 - Remap. Chipping is for old cars.

3- Warranty void - insurance increases.

4 -Remaps are usually 300 - 600 depending where you get them done.

You will only see maybe 3-5 mpg improvement friving the car as you do now. Id guess you may use the extra grunt now and again though, which would negate any mpg improvement overall.

I'd wait until you've got a good few thousand miles on the clock. Let the engine loosen up first. 6k-10k I'd say.

Pffft.

Id probably wait a year until the warrenty expires mate. Ill be doing the same!

... make that three years!

Worth looking at a BlueFin remap from Superchips, they have just done my vRS TDI (PD170) for me; they ought to be able to handle the CR engine though.

Advantages;

1. BlueFin unit plugs into the diagnostic port (under the steering wheel) so you can DIY the remap.

2. You can easily revert to OE map.

2. If Skoda produce a remap upgrade for any reason (they did so a few months ago for the PD 170 engine) then Superchips will modify their remap and you can reload it via the BlueFin.

3. They provide a warranty in the event of a problem that is not covered by skoda.

Disadvantage;

1. Not the cheapest @ £499 inc VAT; but cheapest is seldom the best.

2. Nowt else.

Check out here;- bluefin - Bring your car alive and maximise the performance of your vehicle. PLUG-IN AND GO.

Is the DSG able to handle more power/torque and survive?

Anyone know?

Is the DSG able to handle more power/torque and survive?

As far as I know the DSG box can handle 350 Nm which is right on the limit.

Pffft.

Indeed, I remember picking my Octy vRS up, and driving straight to the REVO place :)

Anyone know?

Search my padawan :)

Ok, have a look here http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/one-dsgs/99036/#post1141670

The I ran 410nm on a DSG without issues and I know of several other members here with decent mileage on DSG's that have been remaped. There's an old post of mine with a good quote from Tyresmoke.net and my experience with my mate who works at Bentley.

Veyrons use DSG ......... :D

I use a DPT (google Diesel Power Tuning) box which gives me 380Nm with no problems, though my base engine is only a PD140, they DPT box is available for the CR170 as far as I'm aware. They have local distributors who come out to you and install. guide price around 350. Impressed with mine. My car has done 66,000miles.

Alright alright, I didn't say you had to do it that way! ;)

I'd say if you're remapping purely for economy reasons not to bother. You may get increased mpg on a long motorway run at constant speed, but you mpg will decrease significantly the moment you decide to use that accelerator pedal in anger. So for overall economy you would be worse off, though with a bigger smile on your face.

:thumbup:I have a CR RS TDi and superchips are currently working on a remap and I was told it should be ready before christmas as they have 2 cars currenty being logged and thet are happy with the results they are getting so far. The Cr uses a a Bosch ECD 17 and they are very tricky to do and they lock out if tampered with. I've been told that the add on units that are being advertised to work on the CR are causing the ECU's to lock out and Bosch wont exchange the unit. So your left without a car.

My advice is to wait for the Blufin or one of the other big remapping companys to release a remap for the new 170CR. I only spoke to Superchips yesterday and they said they a close to releasing a remap. Call them to confirm what I'm saying +441280816781

I got in contact the BRS tuning in Sweden on this question as I have their PPC unit for my current Volvo and I've had good results with it.

I specifically asked whether their "Skoda Octavia 2.0TDI 170BHP" product was for the PD or CR engine, and I got a reply which might mean CR but is little vague:

The PPC works on your model up to 2007/2008 with engine code BMN.

( you will find this info in your service book, first page.)

by "your model" I assume they mean the one I'm thinking of buying, the RS 2.0TDI CR.

So perhaps somone with an RS 2.0TDI CR could look up the engine code to answer the OP's question of whether there is currently tuning for the CR engine rather than the PD model (from BSR anyway).

My vRS TDI is a 2007 model with the 170PD engine. direct from the vehicle data in the service book it reads;- RS 125KW BMN

BRS Tuning's PPC must therefore be for the PD engine.

:(

Unfortunately that doesn't seem good news for those with the CR.

Well, I've finally decided to take the plunge. Getting the VRS CR estate remapped this weekend so I'll feedback as soon as it's done on what I think about it.

Getting a custom remap by PDTuning and includes a rolling road setup. They say it is Warranty and insurance friendly, and virtually undetectable. Mainly going for the increase in driveability and mpg, i will rarely use the extra power as I don't like racing my cars and too old to be a boy racer, although it will be nice to know that I've got it if I need it.

p.s. As regards insurance, I decided to go legit, so rang my current insurer, Frizzel (part of the LV group) and they only quoted me an additional £38 for the remaining 6 months.

I was pleasantly surprised so bit their hands off.

I don't understand why you would have a remap to improve the mpg (as you you've said you'll rarely use the extra power) when it will cost you ~£300? Surely that defeats the point - £300 buys a lot of fuel!

Will look forward to it ! Could you please ask them if they envisage any problems with a DSG box ?

Insurance increase looks a bargain if it produces the increases which others seem to.

You don't need to be a boy racer to use the extra power; its the way you use it that matters. :D:thumbup:

Enjoy.

Thats my excuse! Still waiting on Superchips! And my bloody car getting back from the garage
