my mate has a seat ibiza cupra 55plate..its a 1.8 20v turbo with 180bhp..I have a fabia vrs 06plate remapped to supposedly 175bhp by angel tuning..thing is my mates car is abit lighter obviously and its petrol..and my diesel fabia still seems to keep in front..is there sumthing wrong with his car or are they not really that fast????

Is this off the line or from a rolling start?

From a rolling start the Fabia has the advantage due to the torque.

off the line the fabia gets away a good bit then he gradually catches slightly...but not enof to be right on me....

think about it, same chassis, nearly same bhp and you have more torque

Too many variables - driver, front tyres, torque. Just be happy that it's as fast.

Biggest difference is gearing, you have a diesel 6 speed box, he has a petrol five speed.

And top speed?

To be fair its only 318 and old 316's, possibly a 320i that are easy to embaress. Oh and a Jag 2.2D Estate the other day.

they sure will or when i get mine it certainly will

it's only 180 bhp for petrol.....they aren't that quick. you need them to be just shy of 300 to start imbaresing car's......theres a guy coming to see my fix my leon tomoro who built a mk3 one that was running 360 bhp.....

I was up against a 320d compact once... when my car was bog standard no exhaust, pd160 panel filter... off a roundabout up to about 75 he was just behind me and gained EXTREMELY slowly, but eventually passed, so I'd say a 320d doesnt really embaress a fabia vrs standard vs. standard but its just a touch quicker.

at the end of the day.....the ibiza is proberly a nicer car....not as many around either as they are a higher insurence group and chavs can't afford them as easly as they can the fabia

My fabia has photon torpedoes (not a factory extra but Lummox retro fitted them from the the starship he had kicking around at Unit 18) so now no one gets passed me!

Wait until you're toying around with each other, you press down on your accelerator out of a roundabout or something and your turbo - intercooler pipe pops off. He'll be in your boot .

Correction: No one passes you and LIVES unless they've got phased shielding.

Only executive class BMWs and Mercs have that.

How are you able to not only see their faces but also to judge exactly what expression they have. I put it to you that you perceive they are peeved at being passed by a diesel skoda whereas in the vast majority of cases they simply are not even giving you a second thought...
