help needed my felicia is un well im getting 150 miles out of a full tank changed temp sensor plugs dizzy rotor arm leads and lamda sensor ecu read its ok changed throttle body mono pont injector still no joy had to garage and thay have not got any ideas tail pipe fell off a few months back but got new back box and mid section and rear dampers fitted the same day new thermostat comming next week new brakes fitted all round and new rear cilnders fitted yester day . if any one got any ideas pleas help ps im a newbie lol

Does it start OK? Does it misfire? Is the clutch slipping? Have you had an emmision test carried out?

Valve clearances are worth checking.

Check the air filter

Valve clearances wer set last week inlet 0.20 outlet 0.25 new air filter no misfire dont think clutch slipping just spent to mutch money trying to fix this problem was going to get clutch done in jan after mot if it passes fingers crossed i realy like my car and wont want to brake it on ebay as i have spent to mutch money on it the last few months

I don't know how to check it, but aren't you losing your fuel from somewhere..?

Engine temperature sensor?

Are those valve clearances correct?, usually it is the larger gap on the exhaust valves, but on the Felicia I seem to recall that it is the other way round due to the push rods been made out of a different material.

150 miles on a tank? That's 15mpg! You're looking for something badly, horribly wrong there. Like, as someone already said, big-time petrol leak - though you'd probably have smelled that by now. Those clearances may not be ideal (I can't remember for sure either) but they're good enough to get you running sensibly, so that's not it. Nor the air filter, unless it's completely fallen apart and blocked the throttle body or something. Fuel pump? Possible, though unlikely, I'd say. In theory it could be one, or even two cylinders not firing but it would be dog-rough if that were happening. Probably wouldn't even start, anyway.

Most likely, I suppose, is that for some reason the injection system is squirting far too much fuel in, so you're effectively running on full choke all the time. I've never fixed an injection system - anyone any specific suggestions?

Busted pressure regulator?

Locking petrol cap?

wher is the pressure regulator on the car and how do you chec if all cilinders are firering corectly a frend said it might be fuel filtter colapsed

Richard, that's very much the way I was thinking too, and a busted engine temp sensor is one of the few things I could think of that effectively gives you full choke on an EMS engine!

i put new temp sensor in 2 weeks ago i read on a post to split the brown and white wire and join a peice of wire to the negitive side of the batrey think the engine is 1.3 mpi

If your thermostat is stuffed and system is overcooling then this would account for your poor MPG if your car is an MPI version as the temp sensor doubles up as a fuel temp sensor.

Only other explanation i can think of is a leak in addition to the above to get that poor MPG. If you change everything and inspect with no leaks then try detatching the battery for a few mins as this resets the ECU (or something like that!)

pressure regulator were is it on car and how can i test if falty

From a quick glance of haynes looks like the pressure regulator is at the far left end of the fuel rail as you face the engine from the front, but underneath the airbox and throttlebody. I know nothing about it though unfortunately.

If this was one of these mods that is supposed to fool the ecu into thinking it is cold and give it more fuel , I think it is overdoing the job, Refit the wiring as original. and see how it goes. No reply on the air filter yet , is it ok

I recently changed my themostat as the temp gauge would hardly move from the stop.

Result is I am getting a better mpg, but still not happy with it, still getting over 30mpg though.

looks like the end of my felicia very shortley

Why not have it on diagnostics?

I'm sure it’s only about £35 and maybe that will cough up some answers.

I had a Corsa about 12 months back, and a Citroen AX about 8 months back both had this exact problem and the Corsa had a faulty air mass sensor, and the Citroen was registering some error along the same lines but I never had to replace any parts they cleared the error and it worked as it used to again.

Maybe it’s worth a try?

Oh. I read the first post more carefully and realised its already been done. My bad

Why have you modified the wiring to the coolant /temp sensor what is the purpose of the change?

Just another item you can check. If you have replaced the temp sensor, that's the one in the themostat housing then maybe that is at fault. The reason I suggest this is I ordered a new one for my 1.3mpi and it was faulty so the car ran roughly and wanted to stall, so I put the old one back in and it was ok again.

Given all the things you have replaced/adjusted it's worth just having a look at this again, only a 2 minute job to do.
