Hi all,

Just a quick poll to try and get a feel for relative reliability of the 1.9 and 2.0 TDI engines...

Regards,

Richard.

I've owned both, so I'd suggest PMing a mod to make the quiz a multiple choice multiple answer type.

Who are the mods?! I think there was an option to do this, but I didn't think it would be applicable to most. I'll see if I can change it...

As above had both and nothing wrong with both.

Well, 2.0TDI is doing better than I thought! Although we've not got enough votes to read too much into it just yet...

If any mod reads this, can you make the changes to the poll requested in the posts above? Ta!

1.9 TDI only weak point is the turbo some will say but if you look after that doubt youll have any problems.

no problems after 17 days lol

When you say "look after" it, I assume you mean warming/cooling properly?

I gather that the turbo is the weak point in the 2.0 too?

So far, we have enough votes for 1.9 to get a feel for it's reliability, but hope we can get more 2.0 votes!

So far though, 1.9 seems to suffer way less major problems than 2.0, although we've not got enough 2.0 votes to say that with certainty!

1.9 'way less major problems'? - I see the vote as 1 each at the moment....

It's a bit early to come to any conclusions, but at time of writing, it's 1 major failure from 25 votes for 1.9, and 1 from 9 for 2.0.

Therefore, in % terms, the 2.0 has a much higher "major failure" rate.

But at the moment, the sample is too small to be very useful...

In terms of overall problems, the 1.9 has 5 out of 25 (20%) and the 2.0 1 from 10 (10%) - so for overall problems the 1.9 has twice as many...

Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics

2.0TDi, now on 62,500 miles and no problems to report.

Lol, you're absolutely right, and of course, the terms "major" and "minor" are quite subjective.

But, I'm trying to gauge reliability, this is as useful as anything else I've read on the subject!

All depends what you call major and minor.

Some would call engine destruction major while others would call anything that takes the car off the road major.

Also some of the faults that take cars off the road will be in common parts such as the radiator etc.

Yup, agreed. I'd call major something like a blown turbo, i.e. expensive to put right. But as you say, I didn't make that clear. But by trying to define this better, I might have skewed the results in another way.

I thought I'd just take my chances with these vague categories :)

Does this include non-Skoda VAG cars?

My sisters had a 1.9 TDI Seat Leon for the past few months, no problems at all yet.

Ah, my apologies, yes, ANYTHING that uses these engines, doesn't have to be Skoda!

Just had to call the AA. overtook car last night & I think Turbo stuck.
