New Tyres

Featured Replies

Sport Contacts, much better than previous Good Year NCTs, on me 4x4 Turbo. Excellent cornering and quiet too:thumbup:

How long did your NCT's last - mine only did 9/10k:eek:

Hi, Not to sure if any of this is of help to you.

Some do fully fitted, some Mobile fitting and others Tyres by post.

Not sure if they all stock the tyres you guys are on about, I know the first one doesn't cover a fraction of the tyres mentioned in these postings. Should help for lesser cars/tyres.

Cheers, Pete.

My 1.8T elegance had ecoContacts from new IIRC. I fitted Pirelli P6000's when they wore out which I think have better wet grip and the road noise is a better tone than the conti's.

Tell me about it I paid about £83 each iirc and then there people saying they get them for about £60 :(

I think more and more people are fitting them hence becoming more popular and therefore price rise to make more profit. I know my Kuhmo KU31's were only £60 per corner (205/55/16) and SWMBO's were only £66 per corner (205/45/16). When I had my 17's they were £75 per corner. Those prices were back in May at a little independant tyre dealer in Penistone.

I'm overly impressed by them and will continue to use them once these have worn out, so far a little over 10,000 miles since June and they're wearing really well, it looks like I'll be getting around 20k out of a set on the front of my car.

I've recently passed 20k on my front pair of KU31's (205/50R17), and they still have meat on them.

The front nearside is a little more worn, but that's my fault for chucking it through roundabouts trying to get some lift off oversteer!

I recon I'll get another 5k out of them. I haven't measured the tread yet, but they obviously are not that worn, as I didn't even get a comment from my MOT last week.

Why not Avons, Never had a problem with mine, although I have got the ZZ3s so not sure if those are the ones you where saying to avoid.

I've had ZZ3 and ZV3 on previous cars and wasn't particularly impressed at all, especially with how quickly they have worn. Ones on the front of the vRS only lasted around 8K... One of my friends swears by them though, and wouldn't buy anything else.

The P6000 the car came with lasted over 20K. Had the Conti Sport Contacts on for 8K and there's still loads of life left in them.

Other tyres I've been impressed with are Bridgestone REO720 (awesome, but don't think they do them anymore), Uniroyal Rainsports and Toyo Proxes T1R (?).

I have just bought 4 x 225/45 17 Vredestein Ultrac £265 and will be getting a friend to fit them.

Currently have Goodyear F1 on but wear rate was terrible so i have gone back to the Ultrac as i have had them before and was impressed.

Have to admit I find some of the comments re wear rate on here strange - are people more concerned about wear rate rather than grip in wet and dry?

Personally I put wet grip and inherent safety far higher in my priorities than wear rate. Granted I haven't yet experience wear rates less than about 15k mls but even so I think that is a small price to pay for decent safety...

How the friggin hell can you pair get that much out of a set of fronts :confused::confused:

I don't understand.......do you drive your car on the back of a lowloader ????:D

Good shout I may look into those, it's rears I need so don't need to fork out for Toyos or Kumhos if the Falkens are man enough for the job at that price

I had 2 initially on the front then just the back and I've recently replaced all 4 with FK452. Excellent grip in the wet and mine lasted well too.

I'm not quite sure why people think they don't last unless you drive like you stole it (sorry Steve ;)) and rely on every ounce of grip the tyres give you all the time.

Only catch with them is that the release compound takes a while to come off (few hundred miles) so you have to be careful on them for that time. Easily solved though if you take a sheet of sandpaper and ask the fitter to just take the release compound off with it.

I've had them on for driving on UK roads, German Autobahns, French Payage and the back roads of various countries including the lower Bavarian Alps (September though so not too cold). In all this time I can't say I've been worried by the feel or grip from the tyres and I'll probably get another set of them if they are still made when I come to replace this set.

Yeh, I'd put grip above wear rate too. However, wear rate is also important as an economic factor. I want a tyre that does the lot

I agree, the only problem is that there is no tyre which does both :(

There are, however, tyres which do neither!

the last pair of fronts on my current car did just under 40k:eek: All motorway milage.

I think thats why these are lasting so long too, most of my driving is motorway with very little fun on the way

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics all round. Fantastic grip in both wet and dry conditions, but can't comment on wear yet as they have only done 3000 miles so far. A huge step up in capability from the Conti Sport Contacts I had on before which were shocking in the wet compared to the Goodyears.

Got some of these fitted on my front mid July. Grip is great BUT I had a shock today when I had a look to find they are 3/4 worn out across 3/4 of tyre!! Have done aprox 3500 miles and do NOT drive the car hard (well sometimes - but not enough to cause this amount of wear). Garage that fitted them say they fit these to police Octy`s and have done for nearly 3 months without having had any back for worn out replacements and they do alot more miles as well as driving harder!

Oops - just noticed post is on Octy 1 forum and mines an Octy 2

I got Kumho KU31's for £72 each fully fitted at a local tyre dealer. That was in 225/45/17.

I always use Goodyear Eagle F1's they work for me.

Pro performance in Thornaby (Middlesbrough/Stockton) do the Khumo's for £57 balanced and fitted. Got mine done only 5-6 weeks ago.

Where abouts are these guys??
