New Tyres

Featured Replies

Car sailed through the MOT, but was warned my rears are nearing 2mm

Need to replace them and would like views on worthy replacements.

Don't want to skimp and want decent wet & dry performance.

Considering F1 GSD3 (But know they wear quite badly) and Vredestein Ultracs at the moment.

Any other opinions?

Cheers.

Continental Sport Contacts are superb- got them on my vRS at the mo :) Just don't get Avons!

Khumo Ecsta KU31 is now a popular choice.

I've had a pair on the front of mine for the last 20k, and I can't say anything bad about them. Coped with the Nurburgring very well (even in the wet), and an improvement on the Avon's I had before.

I got mine for £100 each fitted/balanced at a local garage. Think blackcircles do them for about £75 each online.

Try and find the EVO tyre test results.....

Not planning any trackdays in my standard Octavia!!

A decent road tyre is all I need :-)

Falken FK452 (and only the 452) are a good tyre and at a good price too.

Toyo Proxes T1-R. Just had 2 205/55R16W for about £150 fitted and balanced.

Sporttrac3's will be cheaper and better in the wet than the Ultrac's from what I hear. They are what I'll be fitting to the Octy tomorrow now that I've discovered the OE Dunlops have all split. Only £63 all in as well!

I have heard the Falkens are good value for money. Not so suited to hard use but best of the bunch at the price :)

Another vote for Ken's Toyos

Should add that the Toyos are impressive enough that those 2 were replacements for a pair I'd worn out.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics all round. Fantastic grip in both wet and dry conditions, but can't comment on wear yet as they have only done 3000 miles so far. A huge step up in capability from the Conti Sport Contacts I had on before which were shocking in the wet compared to the Goodyears.

Just put 4 Bridgestone Turanzas on (205/55/16 W) at £69 each inc vat. Seem ok but I've only done about 200 miles! Hope they last longer than the Goodyears I had before (9/10k!!)

Why not Avons, Never had a problem with mine, although I have got the ZZ3s so not sure if those are the ones you where saying to avoid.

I put 4 new Kuhmo KU31's on about 3000 miles ago, seem a good tire, no complaints on them, unlike the cheap nasty ones I replaced them with. got the 4 of them fitted balanced etc for £55.50 each as well :)

Pro performance in Thornaby (Middlesbrough/Stockton) do the Khumo's for £57 balanced and fitted. Got mine done only 5-6 weeks ago.

I used to be an Avon fan. I had ZV3's all round on a past car and liked them. I had ZV3's on the rear and ZZ3's on the front of my vRS, but the ZZ3's wore out quickly and never even offered that much grip compared to the KU31's I now run on the front. I'm still running ZV3's on the rear, and they seem to hang on fairly well.

But I didn't think much of the ZZ3's really. I guess it's a pretty old tyre now, and the competition has overtaken them. Tyre technology has moved on a fair bit.....

I just replaced two Toyos with the kuhmo's andI think they are pretty good tbh.

About £10 a corner cheaper than the toyos and seem very grippy (although not quite as good as the toyos)

To summise, If you drive like a **** most of the time get the toyos, if you take it easy most of the time get the kuhmo's as they do the general driving job very imo.

I do highly rate the toyos but they simply don't last as they are designed for grip, I am interested to see how long the KU31's last in comparison, andif its about the same I'll go back too the toyos probably.

Good shout I may look into those, it's rears I need so don't need to fork out for Toyos or Kumhos if the Falkens are man enough for the job at that price

Sport Contacts, much better than previous Good Year NCTs, on me 4x4 Turbo. Excellent cornering and quiet too:thumbup:

Just had 2 Dunlop 2000 sports fitted by Local National Tyre place. £150 inc weights and wheel alignment.
