the weld seal looks like its been done by a blind man!!

Take it you recieved the pipe?

Its functionallity over form mate it works and no one will see the weld

whats the best way to remove the metal collar? junior hacksaw?

No, you can only anodize Aluminum based alloys.

Dunno if you could powder coat it though????
