Who has the most powerful PC?

Featured Replies

I'm still puzzled as to why some people are getting very hight scores for the "Mandelbrot's Fractal" thingy and then others are getting very low ones... even with the same processor.

I will try again later after a fresh boot... it may well be a clogged up cache!

Im thinking the mandelbrot thing might be something to do with vista.. the one i did which was high i did in Win7

Aahhh... cos I got a higher score on my ikkle sony with its 900mhz Intel M (running at 600mhz) and that runs xp.

Phil

Mandlebrot is very CPU intensive, but if you've got a really good graphics card it might be handed off to the GPU to deal with.

It's also quite parallel, so I guess if you get timing issues in the software you could have the function doing only a single thread of work or 2 or 3 or 4 threads.

Doing 2 or more threads of that should speed things up massively.

I also get the feeling that this test is probably a load of old coblers anyway as if your CPU does anything else it's going to have to context switch. Doing a context switch mid generating a Mandelbrot set would potentially be very CPU time intensive.

What about the battle of the Netbooks?

standard Eeepc 900 running XP:

I'm abit concerned that it's only showing 521Kb memory when it's supposed to have 1GB as standard!

FIGHT FIGHT!!! Battle of the ‘Weenie Willy Wavers’!!!

that's second level CPU cache Roy, not your Ram. Think of it as the waiting room in a doctor's or something along those lines, were everyone is gathered together ready to get inside and see the quack.

Mine against the OP.

Looks like the quad really does make a lot of difference.

I just can't be bothered to upgrade it, lol.
