Boot Lighting Mod

Featured Replies

Yeah I was going to say cable ties myself but I could just hear people shunning me for using them.

*shuns*

Where is the switcher located in the boot?

I mean that swichter what turns boot light on and off.

The switch is in the boot latch. It operates the light via the CCM and is also used to establish the locking status and to operate the dashboard indicator.

If you're thinking of using this to switch a light source... don't.

Do as Allclowns did and take the feed straight off the back of the OE light. If you need to use a relay (for whatever reason) you can use this feed as a trigger.

I did my mod with this: Clas Ohlson using the OE light.

Why I asked was that sometimes when I open the trunk, light isn't as bright as is should be. I'm thinking that the switcher isn't working properly.

Is it original system that when trunk is open x-time, then the trunk light goes "sleeping" with dim-mode on?

Ebuyer FTW! :orb_geek:

I'd stick with the white. For a boot light, the red's a bit, well, Amsterdam.

Well, for the price; I've ordered both. I'll probably use the reds for something else if they don't suit the boot.

The only advantage I could see was red light wouldn't screw up your night vision as much ..... but then again you're getting stuff out of your boot, not out on operations. :rolleyes:Besides a green object, brown object and a blue object would all appear to look like black objects under red light. Ever tried reading a regular OS map using a red torch beam? Nightmare.

As for the led ropes .... I had the thought someone could fake Audi headlamps with them .... if only they were worth faking, been reliably informed "that car looks like it's wearing eye-liner". Outline the grill in red whilst you're about it for the lipstick effect gents!

As for them not being quite as bright, dunno. I know the cathode tubes take a 30 seconds or so to heat up and achieve full glow, but even from their initial startup they're pretty bright. Would have thought leds just fire up fully straight away. A 1.5m rope would only drag 1.8w. Should be alright I guess.

Have you??? In fact, do I even want to know what you were doing at that point?

Incidentally, where'd you get the 1mA current draw from for the above statement? I'm watching you, sunshine

The link to Clas Ohlson reckoned 12v at 1.2w per meter.

As for the OS map thing, yeah have had to use red lght to read maps before ... roads and rivers look exactly the same, leading to the exclamation "FINALLY! Some bright spark has built a huge motorway through the centre of London, that'll ease congestion ..... oh wait hang on, it's the Thames".

Yes, funnily enough... on operations. 8 years service with the forces.....

I'm going to fit both and have both colours switchable.

Ah, well I guess that clears it up!

Ok done the mod. Tried both red and white but liked the red more. So I've gone permy red rather than switchable.

I think the light stays on for about 60 minutes and then goes off - unless you close the lid before then of course.

cheers

Interesting that the picture makes your central brake light look like the front of Knight Rider

A bit off topic.....

but....

which brand of boot liner is that? Looks ideal.

Many thanks
