Do I need to buy Sensible Shoes now? NEW CAR

Featured Replies

So the big question, do I need to buy sensible shoes now? I gather women 4 x 4 drivers are all of that persuasion (according to Mr Grumpy).

I have just bought am 8 month old FIAT Sedici Eleganza 1.9TDi. 4 months Tax left on it, a full tank all for £8K. I am very happy with the deal, it remains to be seen if I am as happy with the car :D I hope to pick it up on Wednesday and take it off for a few days up North.

Initial impressions on the test drive are it isn’t anywhere near as well built as a Skoda (it is built by Suzuki) and the diesel is pretty agricultural, which is surprising considering FIAT have been building Common Rail Diesels in cars longer than anyone. But it is great vaue and has genuine ability if the going gets slippy:thumbup:

 why?

Mr Grumpy think I must be Gay if I have a 4 x 4. I am not sure if it is only if we have Landrover Defenders or not however.:D

Weren't you driving a 1 series BMW?

I hope its in addition to the 123, and not a replacement

looking at various reviews, the 1.9tdi engine is slated for its loud noise in all the cars its been fitted to. The noise is proberbly why Fiat have dropped the engine from 58 reg onwards and replaced it with a more refined 1.6.

This quote is from a Grande Punto review.

Bad news? Well the ageing diesel engine’s noisy rattle intrudes into the cabin. If it didn’t the Grande Punto would be very refined, as wind and tyre noise are kept low at motorway speeds – but the boorish engine really knocks the driving experience.

Well, given the lack of success in your love life, I think you have made the correct decision....

Somehow I can't see you keeping it very long, although you seemed strangely enthusiastic about it..

@ jlwah + Tom: It is an all weather addition, really to help me get about up in the North during the Winter. I love my 123.

@ Mannnyo: Yes the engine is not as refined as the old 1.9PD (130) in my Toledo. Seem to be pretty punchy low down though, as I believe they tweaked the torque curve to suit the nature of the vehicle and it looks like 40+ mpg is a very good possibility, which isn’t too bad for a 4 x 4. Still it isn’t meant to be a main car, just a long term keeper for dodgy weather.

@ Grumps: :finger:

Well , now that you mention it.......

I had the 1.9 engine in my GPS and it was a cracker... when it was working

i have a 4x4 octavia and i don't own sensible shoes :P

I suppose £8k is pretty good for an 8 month old car, but makes you wonder what will it be worth in another 8 months!

With this recession set to run for along time yet, what will any car be worth in eight months time?

Come to that, how many dealers will still be here in eight months time?

Worrying times ahead.................

Well that makes me feel better. :(
