Straight Through Exhaust - Good or Bad

Featured Replies

Had a quick search through the forum and cant see the right info, if you know where it is please post a link.

Basically ive seen a couple of movies of vrs's with straight through exhausts, ie, no boxes or cats, and i think it sounds sweet!! :P The questions i have is, will it harm the car, and will it fail its mot with excess emisions etc.

Thanks in advance, Mike.

Don't know about the harming part but diesels are not tested on emissions so cats are not required.

straight through ain't bad. ;)

Cheers guys, didn't think it would harm it, just wanted to check, and if emisions aint tested thats good news.

Is there any companys that sell a straight through exhaust, or am i best finding a local fabricator?

Milltek do 'cos I have one :D

Some people seem to question running a de-cat on a remapped car with a std turbo, but then you pays your money......

Callum will soon be running a straight through as well. Another one to chalk up. :)

Seen the one of mine?

It does sound good.

Makes alot of difference and frees up the tubo nicelly.

We'll see if the standard turbo can take it.

No problems so far though.

I got my de-cat pipe from a forum member.

Then got Stainless Creations in Falkirk to make up my back pipe with no boxes.

(EDIT)

Just noticed your build thread, so i have seen the pics at least. Exactly what i want. . . .

I would advise keeping a small rear box, just so it doesnt drone.

I have decat, and 2.5" exhaust with a smaller sports bacbox and 6x4 oval tip.

remapped running 23psi of boost and it is LOUD when flooring it, I mean pretty damn loud.

But silent when cruising.

Hmmmmm, something to think about. . . don't want it to wake the neighbours in the morning, but would like a good burble, if there is such thing on a diesel :S lol

I'm going to have to get a video of mine on the move. It is loud on tickover, NOISY on cruising and LOOOOOUUUUUUD on boost. :D

Yes they are tested on emissions, but a particulate smoke test.

+1 on my Ibiza with a drain pipe on :D

standard exhaust pipe with rear box cut off and tip put in place will be fine, provides a nice subtle burble... quiet all the way through the rev range unless your foot is planted, even then it sounds sporty and not droney :).

Only problem might be overspin of the turbo due to lack of resistance.

If youve got a hybrid, you will be find with no box or cat.

Thanks for all the info and the videos. Sounds good but theres only so much you can hear out of laptop speakers. Might need to catch up with you (VRS203) if your heading to any meets in the near future? Have a wee listen. . . .

Yeah thats sound.

I usually go to the ScottishVag Fountain Park Edinburgh meets.

So do a fair few other Fabia owners.

Yea went to the last one, hopefully see you at the next, laters. . .

Is that wastegate noise I can hear in the video?

In a word....No. :)

Fabias dont have wastegates due to the VNT Turbos on them.
