New Car Tax changes

Agreed.. my last car is going to be £550 by then.

There's only one thing for it... buy an old pre-1973 Dodge Charger or the like. :D

The other option is to go the kit car/low volume manufacturer route as they're taxed like a pre-march 2001 car.

The way Loz and I are now reading this, you can run a 2005 car with over 225g and it'll only be in Band K - £245 per year due to the note ate the bottom. If this is true it is a major U-turn.

Don't forget that the £550 (from the end column) is only paid in the first year

But they don't state what it will be after that year.. :rubchin:

Looked worse than I thought until I noticed it's the first year costs that will be very high on the VRS.

Any news on the rates for pre 2001 cars? They are still charged on engine size , my 1.4 MPi is currently £120 (just got tax today , runs out tomorrow night!) , are these rates going up too?

Hmm.. so my Mazda becomes band "planet killing" L

You will be responsible for killing an area half the size of Norfolk by my reckoning. Some of that may be due to your driving however

Whilst I think BMW are doing the hardest work in this area, VW aren't far behind. My (proposed!) next car - the mkVI Golf GTI - will reportedly produced 178 CO2s. Which is great when you consider my 1.8l MkIV Mondeo is producing one hundred and eighty something. I can buy a Golf GTI and be looking at a reduction in road tax and no major fuel consumption penalty! The fuel consumption is so poor on the mondeo for a 'low powered' vehicle that I honestly think the GTI will average out at about the same - i.e low to mid 30mpg.

Totally confused about this now.... going off this I can't see where the £425 comes into it? Or is that if I buy a new vRS for instance?

Road tax - Parker's

It comes into effect if you buy a new vRS after March 2010. In theory it should drop down to £240ish for 2011, but that is purely a guess at this stage.

Well, the government have done very well at killing the car industry.New and used.

Just what we need in a recession.Well done chaps

Yup this whole tax thing has been pretty effective...

People can't afford to change to a 'greener' car because now their current car is worth naff all so have to put up with ever increase road tax bills. :thumbdwn:

Still a nice V8 Mustang will be worth next to nothing in a few years so not all doom & gloom.. :D

Im worse off by £5 lol.
