vRS - Pulling to the left

Featured Replies

If your thinking of buying a car that " pulls to the left ( or right ) " dont

It could indicate crash damage or an alignment issue with the vehicle

The " standard " dealer reply of " they all do it " is rubbish , as if they cant back it up with written confirmation from SUK , then its just their "opinion" - and leaves you with the problem to fix - at your expense

I bought mine new and it's pulled to the left from the get go, Took it back to the dealer who adjusted the tracking which helped a bit.

What you should experience is a very gentle drift to the left.

If the car tries to dive for the nearside kerb that would set the alarm bells ringing

Agree

And it''s not the road camber to blame 'cause here it's LHD

It's a Fabia vRS developping issue, somehow linked to the rear axle

The car is probably set up in LHD form at the rear axle, and not changed for the low volume of RHD cars produced. A lot of foriegn trucks are the same, except they wear out tyres in the process. If you go abroad in the Fabia, or the above mentioned trucks, they drive perfectly straight.

:D

I meant my homeland with "here", not UK

I am in mainland Europe, so LHD, and the car still has the tendency to pull left after a perfect wheel alignment

Interesting thread this. I've had my VRS a couple of weeks now and just this weekend noticed it pulling to the left. It's the first time i had driven any distance with two people in it so just wondering if that was a contributing factor? Im sure i tested it when i first got it and it was OK with just me in, but could it be that something might have come a bit lose and slipped a bit? Was going to call the dealer but reading this thread think i'll hang fire and give it another test with just me in. Feel a bit better now i've seen that this is more of a wider issue and people don't seem to be losing any sleep over it. Does it cause uneven tire wear?

Cheers

I saw something on an ITV car program (think it was called driven) ages ago where they had hot hatches that pulled to one side as the came off the line due to the track rod ends being different lengths or summat. does this sound right?

IRC it was a clio and a saxo they were doing it with.

Torque Steer: Causes and Cures

Considering the amount of torque the fabia vRS produces it could be this....

That sounds interesting but (for me anyway) it happens even when im not pressing the accelorator. I think that article is talking about it happening under heavy acceloration.

Not just a Fabia trait it was always a maladie with Mk4 Golfs and some other VAG cars. The toe in in is 0 degrees so no bias for cambered roads or weight distribution within the car. You can have the tracking adjusted by trial and error by up to 1 degree to make it go straight if your alignment man has some patience helping you out.

Torque steer will not be the cause as you say and Fabias don't suffer much from this.
