How do you find web-browsing on that phone Roy?

Since the last FW update the browser on mine is fantastic and makes good use of the screen size.. it doesnt choke up like the N95 did.. and also the optical joystic on the samsung (think upside-down optical mouse) is good to use with it.. its got to the stage where i will happily use this phone for web-browsing if i cant be arsed to get the iphone out. (surely theres more to life than mobile facebook lol)

Do you mean the Omnia, or the N85?

The Omnia was fantastic at web browsing. Faster than my Asus EeePC on WiFi and no cache issues. I liked the way it used full screen as well and you just tapped the little arrow in the corner to display the browser bars. the optical joystick was super cool, worked brilliantly.

I've not used the N85 as much yet but found it to be faster than N95 and the phone seems to cope a lot better with full web pages.

The N85.. the omina was WinMo wasnt it??

it has got to the stage where i struggle to find reason to touch my iphone (apart from when im on-call at work)

My *only* annoyances with the samsung now is the fact all the decent apps are signed to nokia devices only.. things like the MSN client, conversation etc.. and the issue of dust behind the screen

Apart from the above the Innov8 feels better designed and more sturdy than a Nokia, mainly for the rubberised/metal casing and solid feeling slide.. Kudos to Samsung for taking the fight to nokia :)

Has a release date been given for the N97 yet? Had a scour on the net but cant see anything. I'm due an upgrade in March and think i'll probably hold off for it.

I think Q2 is the latest launch window.

No idea which network(s) have bagged the first handsets though.

That will be a awesome phone. Samsung must have realised that WinMob is an aquired taste and installed S60 for relative stability and ease of use.

The processor in these things is so damn quick, I hope they are able to keep the browsing goodness of the windows version. It was the best feature.

I will follow the development of this phone with interest.

I didn't manage to convert you to the N85 then?

Anyway, why worry about O2's 3g speeds when you know where there is some unprotected wireless!

Well, My N95 is at deaths door after 19 months of mistreatment, and I'm 2 months overdue for an upgrade, I thought i'd email nokia and see if they could confirm anything about the 97 to me.

I got this, which seems like an unconfirmed confirmation. :D

Dear Derek' date='

Thank you for contacting Nokia Care.

I hope all is well with you. We are pleased to know that you are anticipating the arrival of the Nokia N97! I hope you can understand Derek that Nokia has yet to determine the release date or projected retail price of the Nokia N97.

Please note that prior to release, all phones will have to undergo testing and approval from the authorities in the respective countries. Testing will be conducted to ensure compatibility with the networks and government regulations.

However, we are able to confirm that the delivery for the Nokia N97 is due before the end of the first half of year 2009, hence, the phone is due for release in this month of June, Derek.

Hope that helps at least.[/quote']

From the gossip on the net, it initially wasnt going on O2 because of an issue with Skype, now its back on but O2 are not selling it directly and the only official O2:N97 distributor in the UK is going to be the carphone warehouse.

Its like eastenders :P Fingers crossed this 95 holds out another few weeks :D

I'm in exactly the same situation as you.

The date given is the 18th of June.

My N95 is currently held together with insulation tape lol

Will be in Nokia shops on 19th June, other retailers on the 26th. As you say, O2 aren't getting directly, but you will be able to get it on O2 through CW.

£500 SIM Free price.

More info: Nokia N97 gets release date: 19 June

Steve

Lol, you are a bit more sophisticated than me, mine is sellotape :D , i'd take a picture of it but my camera is on the phone

I am in two minds over this phone..

Technically the Sammy Omina HD is a far more advanced bit of kit (being able to play HD xvid/divx etc) - but im put off by the sammy i have at the moment.. its little bugs and lack of firmware updates. also alot of third party software doesnt support it as its not a nokia.

N97 comes out tomorrow,. I had a run in with the carphone warehouse today, they charged me £60 extra on my last bill for data charges, so after a bit of email ping-pong they came right out and basically told me to go and **** myself with a cactus.

I called disconnections and, yep you guessed it, to 'keep' me as a customer they would offer me a deal which would save me in excess of £60 to make up for the overcharge.

So I'm getting a callback first thing tomorrow when the system allows him to order a 97, ill wait and see what he offers.

Fingers crossed its a good deal, I left the N95 on the boot latch of the Mk1 Golf when I was working on it and the tailgate strut being 30 years old isnt the best, the slamming noise was enough to tell me that was a dead phone :(

Using my trusty old N91 now :D
