Which Elegance alloys?

Which alloys look best on the new Superb Elegance?

I cannot decide between the 18" Thermisto or the 18" Lunas.

Anyone get any opinions!

Personally, I prefer the Thermisto. They are a bugger to keep clean though.

Bagpuss.

I've ordered mine with the Thermisto. I looked at pictures of cars with both types fitted and felt the Thermisto suited the Superb better. I haven't yet seen anything other on members car pics.

Once again though, personal choice.

Definitely Lunas or you'll spend the rest of your life cleaning wheels! :D

18" wheels ? Are you nuts ? Here elegance comes with 225/45 R 17-wheels, and I immediately told the dealer that I want the basic size, 205/55 R 16. Less noise, much more comfort....

The Elegance is neither noisy nor uncomfortable on 18'' alloys (which I was surprised about until I drove it). Considering they are standard fitment I see no point in downsizing unless you just don't like the look of them.

Remember though that come resale some buyers might be put off by smaller wheels than what the car should have had.

i agree. we british seem to have gone all american bling with wheels at the moment. I have ordered an elegance but specified 17" wheels. I woudl prefer 16 but they are tricky to get over here as only the S model has them (unless i pay £500 for a set at a later date)

i have to disagree. We nearly didnt by the superb as we test drove and elegance on 18" wheels and the low speed ride on poor roads was crashy. i drove an SE on 17" wheels and it was much better. Read all the reviews - they say 18" are totally unecessary and ruin the ride. you might be OK with the 18" on your car as perhaps you are used to a hard ride ? we are coming form 205/55/16 on SE suspension and the contrast was too much.

drive one with 17" or 16" and you will be surprised.

i am actaully wondering whether to stick with the 17" and not bother with 16" . we had an A6 runnign on 17" and one on 16" - i swapped the wheels ocer and the new shape A6 was not imporved by the 16" wheels. the old shape one was made worse by the 17" though. I guess there is an optimum size for the car.

I've driven all sorts but one of my more recent cars was a Morgan Plus 8 so you may have a point!

we are perhaps reacting to the A6 as well. it was bought used and was an SE model - problem is that when it was new it had factory sports suspension added. we didnt know this as it was still billed as an SE car. it drove really well on the test drive but after living with it for a couple of months it was bloody awful on the bumpy county lanes. on a smooth road it was the smoothes car i have ever driven - problem is you then have to turn off the smooth roads (assuming you can find one anyone in the UK !)

we wanted to make sure the superb was not liek this so 18" wheels were a no-no.

Thermisto, if your buying an elegance just drive to the local hand car wash and for £10 they'll make them - and the whole car - bright and sparkly for you anyway !

Are you mad?

18" Lunas Easier to keep clean and I prefer a 'simple' design to the more fussy Thermisto's

18" Lunas were my preference, as they appeared to be easier to keep clean. However, my wife preferred the more demanding-to-clean Thermistos, which certainly do look better, both when stationary and on the move. Since Jean said that she would clean them, we ordered Thermistos. :)

how much  . bloody nora !!!

the hand car washes round here are £5 and i think that is too much. i pay 99p for the auto car wash for my passat (i know they ruin the paintwork but i am past caring on the passat - its done 125k and is only worth about £1000 !!)

i shall use my bucket and chamois for the new superb !

NOOOOOOO!!! TWO buckets with grit guard in the bottom. :D

For what it's worth I like the Thermisto's on mine. The polaris is quite an old'ish design and to me looks dated.

educate me - what is grit guard ?

also - i will have gardX so all i need to do is hose it down once a year dont I ? :D

If you have a spare few hours while waiting for you car to arrive :D

Have a read on here,

Detailing World - A world for detailers by detailers.

i will have a look properly when i have lost the will to live !! i suspect it will get a bit anal - there is detail and there is detail. !!

i have not really looked after my A6 paintwork that well - its 6 years old and i took it to the car wash today in readiness for selling it. the paintwork is really good for a 6 yr old car with 90k !! i live with my cars and not live for them - life is too short !!

although with the new enviromental impacts on paints the skoda is likely to be not as tough as the audi i suspect !

£10 ? Blimey, that's steep. I get charged £6 for a full clean, including sills, under car chassis and re-black of the wheels (why they do this is beyond me, but anyway) For £12 they'll do an inside Valet as well.

Given that the local supermarket car wash is £5.50 I'd rather a bunch of guys hand washed the car carefully, than have some automatic soap dispenser rip parts off the car (had a wing mirror destroyed by one wash wash once, and got the usual "it's not our fault, read our disclaimer" from the supermarket.)

well the car wash worked for me today - the guy bought my A6 !!

99p well spent

yep - 99p for a basic wash and dry at the "IMO" !! its cheap up north !

thermistos imo look much better - i m up north and i cannot find it that cheap !!!!

In every test her in Finland they tell that those 17" tyres make the ride noisy and uncomfortable. The situation is different depending where you live. Here we have a cold winter, and road asphalt is not as smooth as in mid- and western-europe, because is has to cope with those tyres with studs, so that rougher surface gives more noise.

They black the wheels, hoover inside and do a quick valet of the dash, windows inside and out. £5 for outside only.

You can get it done cheaper by hand depending where in the town you go but they do it quicker and better than some £30 valets I've had.

Have you been outside recently ? why would I want to get hypothermia ? £10 a month for a good clean inside and out and the car remains showroom fresh..money well spent if you ask me.:D:D:D
