Brakes Question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Still absolutely chuffed with my vrs cant fault it at all , and I still take great pleasure from the surprise on my mates faces when they get in and are blown away by the sheer shock of a Skoda being this good !!!

But......

When I leave the car still for a few days, when I go to drive off , the brakes have stuck on and I have to pull off quite hard to free them, I have started to park in gear with the handbrake off but it is still happenin.

My car is a 06 Vrs with 29k

Any help would be most appreciated

It's normal fella.

I think it's more noticeable at this time of year, when the roads are wet, and full of grit, or molasses. When your discs dry out, a sticky residue is left behind, which sticks the pads to the discs, which on top of the slight film of rust, needs a slight amount of persuasion to clean off.

Don't leave the car still then!

That doesn't make sense.

Mind you, why should I expect anything more......

Look, I was trying to educate a new member, and you spoil it by typing gibberish, haven't you got anything better to do ?

Good stuff, means I dont have to part with any cash,,, just put up with it !!

Cheers

I have read through a lot of threads lately and it seems that my next quesion is kinda common.

My fuel economy seems to gone to rats**t over the last few weeks,,,, is it really the weather ???

Im talking around around 370 to a tank ??

370? you got a syphoner on the loose

Still getting 500 miles to a tank here, and it's freezing. Check air filter, the 40,000 mile or four year service interval is a joke for an air filter. Replace every 10,000 miles.

Brakes will self clean after a few hundred yards, so no worries there.

cheers moggy, will do air filter tomorrow

changed air filter then travelled the 510 miles back to work today,, still nowhere near 500 miles to a tank, did steady 85 all way down and got around 400 to a tank,,,,,

any ideas ??

Whats your MPG reading?

Fault code check is a start, before that any guess really.

did steady 85 all way down and got around 400 to a tank,,,,,

you've answered your own question there , try doing a steady 65 and see what you get

I'd say that's about right. The tank is roughly 10 gallons so 40MPG at 85MPH sounds reasonable. Especially if you combine it with a bit of spirited speeding up and slowing down for roundabouts, junctions etc.

It's probably worth remembering that the '55 and later cars had the shorter top gear which hurts fuel economy quite badly on the motorway, but helps it on faster A roads where you can stay in 6th for most overtakes and corners rather than changing down to 5th.

Yup, i'll vouch for that. The run I do is 50 miles motorway, and 50 miles A-roads. If i start with the motorway section first I will see around 49MPG, and by the end of the journey the average has gone up to around 55MPG overall. So the A-roads definately help on the fuel consumption. Mines a 54' reg and has got the shorter 6th gear though.
