What Ross-Tech has really said is that it is not supported under Vista since it was written before Vista. That some have gotten it to work is as VRstu has said, a bonus. Still, RT is not going to support problems for the old versions in Vista.

Some software can be run on previous microsoft windows software, and there is an option to run this from control panel.

Just found this thread. If I purchase one of these leads off ebay with the free software, will I be able to do things such as turn on the extra foglight or activate anti-hijack, or do I need the full version of VAG-COM for that sort of thing?

A cheap eBay lead will not work with your Octavia II. You need a genuine cable.
