kwp2000+ help

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me using the kwp2000+ on my mk1 octy vrs as i am unable to recover the original map from my ecu via the OBD port .

I have pulled the fuses and still no joy ..i have sorted out somwhere to obtain my remap files from .. but cant even get the original map off which i need to send of to the mapping company .

I have read in various places that my ecu (me7.5) should be in boot mode ??

Any help would be great

Yes boot mode means soldering ecu.

Lucky for you there is new updated software for this cable

ChipTunaWarehouse

Please can you let me know how you get on as iam interested in your findings. With this update the remap should work without soldering.

Thanks a lot its reading the ecu as i type .. seems to be taking a while tho 50% in ten mins ..is this usual ..anyway it seems to be working !

Ok so it froze 57% will try agin after my tea !

Afaik you need above 12v on the battery so take it for a spin and then connect the battery charger also take the fan fuse out when flashing as they have a habit of coming on. I have never atempted this before but have read up on it.

Where are you based? I can probably give you a hand with this.

Ok so its read the file ok ..took around 20 mins and the file is 1mb in size.

Seems like a long time just to transfer 1mb ?

BTW shark im in leeds .. bit far away i think .. but any advice is greatly appreciated

So now i think its just case of sending away the map and uploading the new one ?

Did it actually freeze when reading?

You may have probs if it freezes when you are writing but i'm not sure on this?

I would advise you read up before reflashing so you don't lock your Ecu up.

Froze first time but read ok second time ...anyone know of a tool to see if the file is complete or some sort of map editor (Not so i can do it myslef) just so can have a nosey at the file ?

You will definitely have problems if it freezes when you're writing and you could brick your ECU. Who's supplying your file?

If you've had trouble reading then I would be very very wary about writing. If you don't know what you're doing (and with respect it doesn't sound like you've done this before) be very very careful.

I wont be flashing my ecu untill im 110% happy that thing can go as smoothly as posible !

Probably going to get hold of another ecu and experiment on that one . anyone know of a tool for looking at the map files .. tried a normal hex editor but dont think its interpreting it propperly ?

Not decided which companies yet anyone got any experience with any of these companies ?

You can try the winols demo or tunerpro to view the maps.

If i were you i would just go for the £99 Ebay map from Ecu evolution that way you will get a good map and not have to worry about if something goes wrong.

Not decided which companies yet anyone got any experience with any of these companies ?

Which ones......the ones you havn't decided on yet :rofl::rofl::confused:

Which ones......the ones you havn't decided on yet :rofl::rofl::confused:

no the orginal file !

Your brave for using that ''tool'' in the first place.

Read should take 2 minutes, same for write...rather than risk a £800.00 ECU, why not get the mapping done professionally?

I saw the thread title and your username and fully expected to be reading needabigturbo needsanewecu

Wise words from those that know above, there are a few people whom have tried similar and lost out to the mighty power of electronics.

There are also a few people who use this tool regually with no probs but you really need to know what your doing and have an escape plan if something does go wrong.

Am i right in saying that if the flash fails you could open the ecu solder one of the pins to earth to put the ecu into boot mode, then reflash and it should sort the problem. I know this ain't for the faint hearted and you would be best with a solder station but is it possible?

Ok so it does not look like the kwp2000+ can write via obd2 on an octavia vrs although it lets me read ecu no problem..

Next question does anyone know how to put the ecu in boot so i can flash it out of the car ?

Any help is apreciated

Are You sure it wont flash over obd i know of a guy who did a tt with the software above.

I tried 3 times ..but no good ,

Connect to pin outs on the ECU, apply boot probe to soldering joint which is linked to leg 2 of the PSOP44 chip.

Call me when you need the ECU recovering

LOL

you are a braver man than me mate.

If you in Leeds just go to see Paul at RStuning. get a custom job on his new RR
