Fabia - Turbo problems???

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

i've searched the site but cant find anything that really relates to my problem - maybe someone can help?

I was driving my fab home tonight (she was all warmed up etc, wasn't thrashing at all, doing maybe 40mph at about 2.5k rpm) when all of a sudden i heard a loud 'pop' sort of sound, like i had run over a brick or something (there was nothing in the road) then she started stuttering and jerking (No lights were displayed on the dash).

I pulled over straight away to check it out but on the side of the road in the dark i couldnt see much in the engine bay or underneath. the car sounds really loud now and is pouring out alot of black smoke. I limped the car home (about 4 miles) and noticed that the car is not only really loud now but jerks when above about 1.5k rpm.

I'm really hoping this is a pipe having popped off or something, rather than the dreaded blown turbo!

the car is mapped to around 180bhp. Have any of you guys experienced / heard of a similar problem?

Any help would be greatly appreiciated!

Cheers,

Jon

Identical thing happened to me on 23rd Dec (great timing!) and it was just the intercooler pipe that had popped off. Had to get a new one fitted, as one of the rivets, that holds the pipe on, had snapped when the pipe came off.

Fingers crossed you're as lucky as I am!

Thanks dude, that helps...or at least helps to put my mind at rest a bit!

Im 99% sure you will find just a pipe has popped off. Try the main one off the back of the turbo, and the one behind the headlight, as they seem most probable to fail.

defo sounds like a pipe popped off!!

my turbo blew and it sounded like a supercharger whining away then the engine conked out and wouldnt start so got towed home lol

Yup, boost pipe will have popped off.

same happened to me, jus boost pipe behind headlight

I put some jubilee clips around the existing clips on mine and there seems to be less play in the pipes now.

I had the same problem, but mine smashed my engine cover to pieces!!

Does anyone have the part number for the boost pipe as mine is still leeking and power loss is noticed?

Cheers

Harry

Spent this morning underneath the fab and im glad to report that the noise was caused by a pipe having popped off from the bottom of the intercooler. i re-attached the pipe and took the car for a test drive, but the pipe popped off again within 2 minutes of driving. I'm thinking the teeth that hold this pipe in place might be warn down after popping off, but also could this be because theres too much pressure on the pipe - i.e do i need an after market dump valve? what do you guys think?

Teeth holding the pipe in place will have gone, so you'll need to replace that part - for me it was 6Q0145834D as I needed to replace the bottom of the pipe, but you may want to check that...

Let us know how you get on.

dump valve won't fix the problem.

Get the pipe replaced with a SFS replacement and it will be fine. This pipe is well known for poping off. Mine had done it and most of the members on here have had it happen as well.

Thanks guys, i'll get on the phone tomorrow and let u know what the outcome is!

You could always try adding a jubilee clip around the pipe where it fits on the help it stay in place until you've got the bit's you need.
