Lower MPG - Vrs

Featured Replies

I am struggling to get any more than 34mpg at the moment.. even if I drive very

conservatively.

I suspect the cold weather is having some say on this with increased viscosity of the fuel but I cannot recollect previous years being as bad. All the usual checks have been made (tyre pressure, oil levels etc etc) and its fine additionally nothing logged in VAG COM.

Car is driving great otherwise, just wondered what sort of MPG other people are getting at the mo.

not much above 30MPG at the moment with shorter journeys and cold weather, car vagcoms fine too

I'm suffering with lower mpg, but I'm not too bothered. The car is running fine, but with the mixture of cooler denser air, added time to get warmer, headlights on most of the time, blower on more & the rear demister switched on have all help in bringing the mpg down.

All sounds well then, good job the price of petrol is cheap as chips at the mo

Seeing similar things here, particularly when its icy.

I would love to get 30mpg out of mine. Getting around 25/26mpg ever since remap and performance mods added.

I'm getting those figures too with the steady drive around town & going to work, but I was getting 32mpg last summer doing the same journey & I watched the figure go down as it got colder & the dark nights closing in.

As long as i get over about 28mpg i am happy. They are after all a sportyish car

I was regularly seeing 40mpg on my commute to work (b roads/motor way) before the cold weather set in.

I will live with it, the derv burner bug seems to be doing the rounds but I have had my immunisation :finger:

I get 25mpg regardless of how I drive it, and that's stock. Something's definitely not right.

Also remember that bio mucks been in the fuels since the end of summer by law, and that's reduced the MPG many cars now see by 5-10%.

How very green

I'm getting about 30mpg (actual not display) on A road with no motorways and a fair bit of right foot at the moment. This has dropped off a lot since summer. I use V-power petrol as it does help stretch the tank out quite a bit.

I dont really trust the display much, dont think im ment to but i usually do short trips which kills my MPG. It usually stays around 25mpg mark with mixed driving but go on a long run with same driving style (not sensible) and i got 32 most of time. The next day did a short journey and it stayed up there about 30mpg instead of dropping to its usual 25. :S I will probably get a little more to a tank on this one though.

I had mine too - I had the LPG injection :D dont really care what MPG I get as it 47p litre at the moment. full tank is 50litres and can vary from 220-300 miles depending on trip type

I calculated mine this morning as doing an average of 35.19mpg on the last tankful.

It's totally standard but I always use either VPower or Tescos 99 RON. Driving is a mixture of country, town and dual carriageway work.

Yeah diesel blows! The car and fuel is more expensive.

I drove from Huddersfield to Bedford a couple of weeks back, with my mate in his Seat Leon FR (2.0TDi) driving with me.

At the end of the journey, my average mpg was 40, his was 43.

I use shell v-power 99, he uses shell v-power diesel, which is damn expensive.

I laughed........

Same here can normally get about 39mpg but down to 30mpg at the mo!

I regular manually calculate mine (octavia vrs) i always find when calculating its 2 mpg higher then the computer ...i hope this settles anyones worries of fuel economy....but really boys in less its under 20 mpg i would not worry i generally get 28mpg on average mixed driving, heavy foot and thats on a remaped beast on higher fuel .....i was getting really bad fuel economy on regular fuel though!!!!

New owner - so inmterested in this. A few short blasts does seem to hit the economy. Also big difference when we do any really short journeys (no surpries there). Had the car for 500 or so miles. Last tank brim to brim worked out at 27.7. Thats Optimax with a little Asda cheap stuff left in there! Btw this would mean a range of circa 340 (put in 45 litres. had covered 275 miles and range said 70 left in the tank). 275 miles made up of 200 or so miles sensible and 75 of short journeys.

If we can see 35 on a run we would be happy - nearer 40 would be unbelieveable. I assume to get this it means a light right foot - pootling at 60-70 and in top as often as possible on A roads . By my calculations with a 55 litre tank the max range would be 424 @ 35 mpg.

Ooops just realised this is in the Octavia 1 forum I have a TFSI

lol just read last bit. In my MK1 i have had over 40MPG out of it, mostly at 40-55 on leeds ring road but that was back in October. On a long journey you should see 35mpg :)

My motorway average in my mk1 1.8T was 44mpg (calculated, not computer). And that was never hanging about if you get me ;)

Must of calculated it wrong !!!!

Dont think he has got it wrong, as my old modded Octy vRS would easily do over 40mpg and would do 47mpg at 70mph on cruise control on a motorway over a distance, this was based on actual fuel used against mileage, not the onboard computer, and, as Andyrew and others will confirm, this was not hanging about.

Just PM TrevorB33, the new owner and ask him for his opinion.

Handling/track days are a different matter...LOL

So you did not change your car for fuel economy then!!!

Cuz there near enough Diesel figures!
