Lower MPG - Vrs

Featured Replies

Well the way i calculate it and for those that dont know...

Fill up full tank Reset odometer

Run the tank down to low

Fill up tank to same level

Divide amount of litres by 1 Gallon (i have a exact converter on my phone) about 4.56.

then divide amount of miles by amount of gallons

Example figures:

45. litres - 9.89862 Gallons lets say 9.90

277 miles / 9.90 = 27.97 miles per gallon typical figures actually i get.

The out come of 28 mpg, the litres and miles were a rough guest!

I have heard not just from skoda octavia owners but people who drive the 1.8 20v turbo that this is a realistic figure.

I think it all depends on how you drive it..... I obviously love the power!

I've definitely seen a reduction in MPG during the Autumn/Winter. Seeing about 30 atm on a mix of dual carriageway (60mph indicated on cruise) B roads and a fair bit of 30 roads. Was looking at about 32/33 in the summer. Again this is calculated. My MFA usually overestimates by between 1.6 and 4.5mpg (been keeping a spreadsheet every time I fill up!)

I'm convinced the temperature (and all related factors road service, time to warm up, electrics use etc.) is the culprit.

Must of calculated it wrong !!!!

Nope double checked my figures and they were right when working out fuel used and mileage covered.

I got from Staines to Haverfordwest, and almost all the way back one one tank one two occasions. I actually used to make money on the mileage allowence which topped up my car allowence, and covered the insurance too. Car ended up costing me personally FA to run, as the firm paid it all on expenses etc.

on a full tank im getting 200miles but that is driving on the fun side

I am averaging 32.5 mpg come winter or summer. Did get 36mpg on a trip to N. Devon though and I wasn't hanging about!

You must be" flat2thefloor" then :saythat:

sorry had to be done......

Just wait till you remap it and up the performance then, if you are only getting that MPH now..

I'm really interested in this as i've just bought a low milage vRS that i've always wanted and swapped out of the company car scheme to get it.

I've justified in to myself on the basis that i get paid per mile regardless of what car i use so the cost are covered. My business trips send me all over the country so i'm going to check this our over the next year.

I've only had mine a month and i've averaged 31mpg on each tank. This has always been during the evil cold we've had for the last month. I'm guessing that some people think this will go up during the summer as i have the heater on nearly constant at the moment and lots of the electrics?

I've averaged 35 on a long run to london but the way the instant mpg on the dash on mine indicates i can't see me ever getting above this.

I'm not a lunatic and i don't usualy stray above 80 solid but my full tank will always get me 350-370 miles.

I'm ok with this but reading some people on here there seems to be alot of varience between different vRS's.

Mine's got an induction filter and some sort of modded dump valve. Is there some sort of reason that different mods have an effect on fuel economy or is there no good explanation about all the different mpg figures?

So you did not change your car for fuel economy then!!!

Cuz there near enough Diesel figures!

No, I changed my car as I had had it from new and it was now seven years old, and with the current economic climate, dealers are doing suicidal deals if you have the cash and no px.

PM TrevorB33, and ask him what mpg he is getting from the car.

If the car is set up properly, and as you know mine was quite heavily modded, then it does not have to be a gas guzzler when driving normally, and you know only too well that my old Octy vRS never disgraced itself when asked to perform above its league.

I recently took mine to Sussex and back and I acheived 42mpg by doing 62mph indicated on cruise. If you're just on a long motorway journey why drive quickly? Even at 70 I can get 37 to Southport and back with a boot full of 4 x 8x16" Porsche Design 90s a load of luggage and 3 passengers! At 80 and above things drop considerably, plus you have to brake and re-accelerate every time there's a camera. What do you gain? Maybe 10 minutes every hour? It's far more relaxing to just engage the cruise, put the stereo on and let all the crazy "in a rush" people pass you by.

Then save the fun for when you're not on a long journey and you can let the car loose!

FatmanCallow, reply on your own figures, and not the car's. It is often more conservative than your actual figures.

Also, mine was run on normal unleaded. Never had a drop of super/ultimate/v-power in it's life. Find out which garage it likes best too. My Mk 1 ran best on Total and Texaco, and hated everything else give lacklustre performance, and poor MPG return.

I use BP on my works Mondeo (diesel) and Mk2 (2.0 FSI elegance), and they both hate it, but I get points back so hey ho. If I use what they like, I can get an extra 5MPG.

It's all in the fuel YOUR engine likes ;)
